Convention facts and Key events

The NCAA News

When: January 11-14, 2002. Related events begin January 10 and conclude January 15.

Where: Indianapolis. The headquarters hotel is the downtown Marriott. This is the first NCAA Convention to be conducted in Indianapolis.

Projected attendance: As of mid-December, 1,457 delegates had registered. Of that total, 287 were from Division I, 590 from Division II and 580 from Division III. The total also includes 137 college and university CEOs. About 1,700 delegates attended the 2001 Convention in Orlando, Florida, and about 1,600 attended the 2000 Convention in San Diego.

Number of proposals: Divisions II and III delegates will act on 66 proposals listed in the Official Notice (40 in Division II and 26 in Division III). The Divisions I, II and III Management Councils and presidential governing bodies also will meet in conjunction with the Convention.

Saturday, January 12

NCAA Delegates Reception: 6:30-8 p.m., NCAA national office.

Sunday, January 13

Division II CEO Luncheon: Noon-1:30 p.m., State Room, Westin.

Division III Issues Forum: 1:30-4 p.m., Marriott Ballroom.

Division II Issues Forum: 2-4 p.m., Grand Ballroom IV and V, Westin.

Opening Business Session: 4:30-6 p.m., 500 Ballroom, Convention Center.

NCAA Honors Dinner: 7:30-9:30 p.m., Sagamore Ballroom, Convention Center.

Monday, January 14

Division I Issues Forum: 8 a.m.-noon, Indiana Ballroom, Marriott.

Division II Business Session: 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Grand Ballroom IV and V, Westin.

Division III Business Session: 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Marriott Ballroom.

Tuesday, January 15

NCAA Executive Committee: 9 a.m.-noon, Marriott Ballroom.
