FARA

Fall forum to be conducted November 14-17 in San Diego

The Faculty Athletics Representatives Association's annual Fall Forum will be November 14-17 in San Diego.

The forum is an opportunity for faculty athletics representatives to discuss legislative proposals that are in the Division I legislative pipeline or that are set for a Division II or III vote at the NCAA Convention. The forum also is an opportunity for topical sessions on issues facing intercollegiate athletics. Among topics to be discussed at this year's forum are time demands facing student-athletes and the role of faculty members in reducing that strain, and the level of communication between conference commissioners and league FARs as a way to strengthen faculty input into the Division I governance structure.

MEMBERSHIP FORMS

Forms to be submitted electronically for 2001-02

The new Sports-Sponsorship Form, the Institutional Demographic Form and the Conference Membership Information Form will be submitted electronically via the NCAA Web site for the 2001-02 academic year. Member institutions and conferences will not be receiving the forms through the mail.

A memorandum will be sent to directors of athletics and chief executive officers of each institution and to the conference commissioner of each conference that includes instructions on how to access the forms via the NCAA Web site. The memo, which will be sent to institutions and conferences in mid-May, also will include a user name and password for the applicable institution or conference.

Requested information must be submitted by August 15. Institutions will be asked to submit ethnicity information for each sport the institution offers, as well as the number of contests offered for each sport for the 2000-01 academic year.
