Goscilo named head volleyball coach

Franklin & Marshall hired Nicole Goscilo as head women's volleyball coach. Goscilo replaces Steve Coulson, who has been head coach for the past 12 seasons.

For the past two seasons, Goscilo has served as an assistant coach at Temple. Since November 2000, she also has guided a Junior Olympic volleyball club in Pennsylvania. Additionally, she has been as a communications intern with the Atlantic 10 Conference since January. Before joining Temple, Goscilo worked as a volunteer assistant at Lehigh.

Goscilo, a 1998 graduate of Muhlenberg with a degree in business administration, competed on the Muhlenberg women's volleyball team for three years. Goscilo earned a master's degree in sports administration from Temple in May.

Owen F. Cargol was selected as president at Northern Arizona. Cargol has been president at University of Maine at Augusta ... Connecticut College appointed Norman Fainstein as president. Fainstein has been dean of the faculty at Vassar ... Kenneth L. Hoyt, president of the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges, was chosen as president at Centenary ... Brian M. Barefoot was named as interim president at Babson. Barefoot formerly was chairman of the school's Board of Trustees ... Widener's Robert J. Bruce announced plans to retire as president, effective July 31. The school named Lawrence P. Buck, academic vice-president and provost, as acting president, effective August 1 ... Antoine M. Garibaldi was appointed president at Gannon. Garibaldi is a senior fellow at Educational Testing Service and former provost and chief academic officer and professor of education at Howard ... Southern Colorado selected Robert Glennen as interim president. Glennen has been president emeritus at Emporia State ... Tito Guerrero III was named as president at Stephen F. Austin. Guerrero has served as president at Southern Colorado.

Harvard named Robert L. Scalise as athletics director to succeed the retired William J. Cleary. Since 1996, Scalise has been associate dean and senior executive officer of the Harvard Business School ... John Ira Davis Jr. was selected as athletics director and head men's basketball coach at Albany State (Georgia) ... Alcorn State chose Marino H. Casem as interim athletics director to replace Lloyd Hill, who retired in June 2000. Casem formerly spent from 1966 to 1986 as athletics director at the school ... Virginia Union will not renew the contract of Athletics Director James F. Battle. Battle has held the position since 1985 ... Todd Turner, athletics director at Vanderbilt, was awarded a contract extension through 2006 ... Youngstown State elevated Ron Strollo to athletics director, succeeding Jim Tressel and interim athletics director Pauline Saternow. Strollo has been with the school since 1996, most recently serving as associate athletics director ... Jack Lengyel announced retirement plans as athletics director at Navy, effective October 1. Lengyel has served as athletics director since 1988 ... Cal State Fullerton Director of Athletics John Easterbrook announced his retirement, effective this fall ... Greg LaFleur was hired as athletics director at Southwest Texas, succeeding Jim Wacker. LaFleur has been at LSU for 12 years, serving as associate athletics director for the last 10 years ... John Marinatto stepped down after 14 years as athletics director at Providence ... Eastern Mennonite named Larry Martin as athletics director, replacing Rob Roeschley, who stepped down to focus on duties as head baseball coach. Martin has been associate athletics director for external affairs at Towson for the past six years.

Bucknell hired Amanda Backus as senior woman administrator/associate director of athletics. Since 1999, Backus has been senior woman administrator and assistant athletics director for compliance and student services at Quinnipiac ... Constancia Simpson Hayes was named senior woman administrator and head women's track and field and cross country coach at Delaware State. Simpson Hayes has worked as assistant men's and women's track and field coach and assistant women's cross country/middle distance specialist at St. John's (New York) ... Le Moyne added Nicole Swan as assistant director of athletics and senior woman administrator. Most recently, Swan has been director of sports information, head softball coach and head field hockey coach at SUNY Morrisville ... Paula Smith was hired as associate athletics director/senior woman administrator at UC Riverside. Smith, who has been assistant athletics director for student services at UC Irvine, replaces Sue Gozansky as senior woman administrator.

For the past six years, Heinze has served as director of facilities management at Illinois ... Florida International chose Julie Berg as associate athletics director for internal operations. Berg, who has been head athletic trainer for six years, will continue as senior woman administrator ... Annamarie Wyant resigned as associate athletics director for women and head women's basketball coach at Albion ... Derita Ratcliffe was elevated to associate athletics director at Eastern Kentucky. Ratcliffe, who enters her third year at the school, has been assistant athletics director and senior woman administrator since July 1999 ... Campbell promoted Debbie Richardson to senior associate athletics director. Richardson has been with the school since 1998 serving as assistant athletics director for internal operations and senior woman administrator ... Stanford promoted Earl Koberlein, Ray Purpur and Scott Schuhmann to associate athletics directors. Koberlein has been with the school since 1993, most recently serving as an assistant athletics director. Purpur has been with the school for eight years and has been senior assistant athletics director for facilities, operations and events since 2000. Schuhmann has served in the athletics department for 12 years and has served as assistant athletics director for football support and athletics services since 1995. Baseball -- Peter Kostacopoulos, head coach at Wesleyan (Connecticut), announced his retirement. Kostacopoulos guided the program to a 479-304-7 career record in 28 years ... Arizona hired Andy Lopez as head coach to succeed Jerry Stitt. Lopez, who formerly has been head coach at Cal State Dominguez Hills, Pepperdine and Florida, led Pepperdine to a national championship in 1992 ... Todd Lillpop was elevated to head coach at Kentucky Wesleyan. Lillpop has spent the past two seasons as an assistant with the school ... Plattsburgh State hired Kris Doorey as head coach. The program will compete as a club team in 2001 and will begin varsity competition in the spring of 2002. Doorey, who also will assist in the sports information office, has served as head coach at MacMurray for three seasons ... Edinboro's John Radovich announced plans to retire as head coach ... Chris Dotolo was named as head coach at Hofstra ... Stetson agreed to terms with head coach Pete Dunn ... Akron elevated Tim Berenyi to head coach. Berenyi was acting head coach during the 2000-01 season and replaces Dave Fross ... Northern Iowa awarded head coach Rick Heller a four-year contract extension through the 2004-05 season. Heller has led the program to a 58-61 mark in two years.

Baseball assistants -- Manhattan elevated Tom Sowinski to associate head coach. Sowinski has been an assistant coach with the program ... Mark Kingston and Chad Sutter were added as assistants at Tulane ... Binghamton hired Mike Collins as full-time assistant coach. For the past four years, Collins has been head coach at Keystone College ... Todd Rima resigned after three seasons as an assistant coach at Northern Iowa to assume head coaching duties at North Iowa Area Community College ... Scott Demetral was chosen as an assistant coach at Akron. Demetral worked as a temporary assistant with the program during the 2000-01 season.

Men's basketball -- Dick Davey, head coach at Santa Clara, was awarded a contract extension through the 2004-05 season. Davey enters his 10th season as head coach ... Tusculum chose Griff Mills as head coach. Mills, who has spent the past 10 years as head coach at Armstrong Atlantic State, succeeds Mike Hollowell ... Armstrong Atlantic State elevated John Marhefka to interim head coach for the 2001-02 season. Marhefka has been an assistant with the program ... West Virginia Tech named Steve Tucker as head coach ... Chris Bartley was selected as head coach at Worcester Polytechnic. Bartley, who succeeds Ken Kaufman, has been an assistant at Babson for two seasons ... South Alabama head coach Bob Weltlich agreed to a four-year contract extension. Weltlich has guided the program to a 74-44 mark in four years.

Men's basketball assistants -- Steve Seandel was promoted to associate head coach at Santa Clara. Seandel has been with the program for 10 years ... Lander hired Donnie Mathews as an assistant coach. Mathews has been an assistant at Dodge City (Kansas) Community College ... Loyola (Illinois) named Scott Spinelli and Bill Wuczynski as assistants. Spinelli most recently has been a scout for the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers, and Wuczynski has been an assistant at UNLV ... Brian Bellomy resigned as an assistant coach at Charleston Southern ... Mark Wade was appointed as an assistant coach at Florida Atlantic ... Darren French was hired as an assistant coach at UC Riverside ... Tusculum added Toby Wagoner as an assistant. Women's basketball -- Canisius' Mike Decillis signed a three-year contract extension as head coach ... Kris Ruffo resigned after four seasons as head coach at Lenior-Rhyne ... Jim Crawley retired as head coach at Frostburg State. Crawley posted a 406-188 overall record in 23 years. Crawley also formerly was the school's head football and head men's basketball coach. The school named Jody Pepple as head coach. Pepple has served as top assistant coach with the program for six years ... Santa Clara extended the contract of second-year head coach Chris Denker ... Ron Rohn was awarded head women's basketball and head women's golf coaching duties at Muhlenberg. Rohn, who succeeds Tammy Smith, has been head coach at Colgate for the past six seasons ... West Alabama head coach Becky Crowe resigned to become an assistant coach at Austin Peay ... South Carolina-Spartanburg head coach Gene Hill resigned ... Skidmore appointed Lisa Pleban as head coach ... Kevin Morris assumed responsibilities as head coach at Rutgers-Newark ... Lanpher, who succeeds the late Penny Lewis, has been head coach at Pratt (Kansas) Community College for the last two seasons ... Northern Illinois chose David Sarnowski as director of women's basketball operations to replace Joe Conroy. For the past two seasons, Sarnowski has worked as an assistant at Viterbo University ... Kelly Krumsick resigned as an assistant at Wisconsin-Whitewater. Krumsick was an assistant for 10 years and also was an assistant softball coach during the 2000 season ... Texas-Pan American added Kate Galligan as an assistant coach. Galligan has been an assistant at Pittsburgh for three seasons ... Men's and women's cross country -- Frostburg State's Bob Lewis resigned as head men's and women's cross country coach and head men's track and field coach. During his 31-year career, Lewis led squads to three NCAA Division III national championships. The school announced Randy Lowe, an assistant men's and women's cross country and track coach, as head cross country coach. Lowe will continue to assist with the track and field program ... Trent Sanderson was hired as head cross country coach. Sanderson, who replaces Dan Rincon, has been an assistant at Florida State ... Albion chose Hayden Smith as head cross country and women's track coach. Smith succeeds Amy Wolfgang ... Adam Allden assumed duties as head men's cross country and outdoor track and field coach at Coastal Carolina ... Francis Marion hired Mark Bluman as head men's and women's cross country and track and field coach, succeeding Thomas Whiteley. Bluman has been head men's and women's cross country and track coach at Bluffton for the past three years ... Kandice Holamon was selected as head cross country and track and field coach at Texas Lutheran, succeeding Connie Hand Widenor. During the 2000-01 academic year, Holamon served as head cross country and track and field coach at Jarrell (Texas) High School.

Men's and women's cross country assistant -- Hofstra named Will Fettig as men's and women's assistant coach.

Field hockey -- Beth Hallenbeck was chosen as head field hockey and women's lacrosse coach at Skidmore ... Moravian hired Natalie Gozzard as head field hockey coach, head women's lacrosse coach and athletics facilities coordinator. The lacrosse program is scheduled to begin club competition in 2002 and enter varsity competition in 2003. Gozzard has spent the past year as assistant athletics director and head field hockey and women's lacrosse coach at Chestnut Hill.

Field hockey assistant -- Dartmouth named Lindsay Wright as an assistant coach.

Football assistants -- Knox added Jami Isaacson as defensive backs coach and Pat Connour as defensive line coach. Dave Bass, who was defensive backs coach, was moved to offensive line coach ... Bill Michael announced plans to retire as assistant head coach at North Texas. Michael, who has been with the program since 1994, served six years as defensive coordinator and spent last season as offensive line and tight ends coach ... Cornell College chose Paul Reimann as football defensive line coach and throws coach for track. Reimann has been football linebackers and special teams coach at Illinois College, in addition to working as throws coach for track ... Robin Pflugrad was selected as recruiting coordinator and tight ends coach at Washington State. Pflugrad, who was an assistant coach at Arizona State for six years, replaces Jim Zeches ... Illinois State hired Jon Shields as outside linebackers coach and Chris Patton as defensive line coach. Shields was a former assistant with the program and has been coaching at the high-school level. Patton has spent the past six years as an assistant coach at Lake Highlands (Texas) High School ... Karl Ballard was named as an assistant at South Dakota State. Ballard, who succeeds Phil Barrios, was a graduate assistant coach at Colorado State last season ... Augustana (Illinois) added Chris Bessler as defensive line coach and director of stadium operations and Jeff Timmons as running backs coach. During the 2000-01 school year, Bessler was defensive line coach and assistant track and field coach at Northern State. Timmons currently is working on a master's degree in sport management at Western Illinois ... Bill O'Boyle was named as defensive coordinator at Redlands to replace Ed Lamb. O'Boyle has been defensive coordinator at Hastings since 1997 ... Towson elevated assistant Rich Bader to associate head coach and named John Swigart as offensive coordinator and Don Zimmerman as defensive coordinator. Bader, who has been with the program since 1970, succeeds Rob Ambrose. For the past three years, Swigart has been secondary coach and head junior varsity coach with the program. Zimmerman has been linebackers coach for the school since 1998 ... Bill Roos and Vic DeNardi were chosen as assistant coaches at Pace ... Canisius promoted assistant coach and defensive coordinator Dan Conley to full-time status. Conley has been with the program since last season ... Rip Scherer was selected as co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Kansas. Scherer was released last fall after five seasons as head coach at Memphis. Kansas also moved quarterbacks coach Jay Johnson to running backs coach ... Stephen F. Austin hired Mark Bradley as running backs coach. For the past nine seasons, Bradley has worked as tight ends coach at Tennessee ... Curtis Walker was promoted to defensive coordinator at Catawba ... Franklin & Marshall named Mike Hoyt as linebackers coach ... Charlie Hall was chosen as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Northern Arizona. Hall has been tight ends coach and defensive and special teams coordinator at Ashland (Oregon) High School ... Pat Fitzgerald accepted responsibilities as defensive backs coach at Northwestern ... Northern Iowa added Bill Ennis-Inge as linebackers coach and Mario Verduzco as quarterbacks coach. Ennis-Inge has been on-campus recruiting coordinator at Iowa for the past three years. Verduzco has been an assistant at Rutgers for five years, most recently serving as head quarterbacks coach and recruiting coordinator. The school also announced that assistant defensive line coach Jack Mitchell was moved to tight ends coach and linebackers coach William Freeney was moved to running backs coach ... Indiana (Pennsylvania) chose Jai Hill as wide receivers coach ... Shane Beamer was named as a graduate assistant coach at Tennessee, succeeding Joe Paul Purvis. Beamer has been an assistant at Georgia Tech ... John Carroll added Andy Hoffman as offensive line coach and assistant offensive coordinator, Ed Esch as assistant defensive backs and junior varsity coach, Larry Holmes as receivers coach and Michael Murphey as graduate assistant offensive line coach.

Men's and women's golf -- Eric Sieger assumed additional duties as head women's coach at Carleton, succeeding Betsy Larey. Sieger will continue to serve as the school's sports information director ... Tina Kuhle was appointed as head women's golf coach at Clarke. Kuhle has been head women's softball coach at the school since 1995 and head women's basketball coach. Kuhle will retain head basketball coaching responsibilities ... Delaware appointed Michael Keogh as head men's coach ... Butler selected Rob Knuckles as head women's coach ... Bonnie Murphy assumed duties as head women's coach at Cal State Northridge, replacing Stephanie Martin. Last year, Murphy was an assistant with the program.

Men's and women's golf assistant -- Michele Ricigliano was added as an assistant men's and women's coach at Hofstra.

Men's and women's ice hockey -- Canisius' Brian Cavanaugh signed a three-year contract extension as head coach. Cavanaugh enters his 21st season as head coach.

Men's and women's ice hockey assistant -- Princeton tabbed Robert Prier as an assistant men's coach.

Men's and women's lacrosse -- Eric Fekete was hired as head men's coach at Quinnipiac, succeeding Tim Price. Fekete has spent the past five seasons as an assistant at Fairfield ... Lycoming added Shawn Rosa as head men's coach. The 2000 Lycoming graduate was an assistant coach at the school last season.

Men's and women's lacrosse assistants -- Randi Borgen was selected as an assistant women's coach at Dartmouth ... Kristen Sander accepted the position of assistant women's coach at Delaware.

Men's and women's rowing assistant -- Virginia hired Katie Scanlon as assistant rowing coach. Scanlon was a member of the U.S. Rowing Team from 1993 to 1998.

Men's and women's skiing -- Clarke promoted Andy VanOsdol as head men's and women's Alpine coach. For the past seven years, VanOsdol has worked as an assistant with the program.

Men's soccer -- Rusty Scarborough was named as head coach at Greensboro. Scarborough has been director of coaching for the Twister Soccer Club in Greensboro ... Concordia (Illinois) named George Mihalopoulos as head men's and women's coach ... Todd Crawford was awarded responsibilities as head coach at Pfeiffer ... Saint Rose's P.J. Motsiff resigned as head coach.

Men's soccer assistants -- Cameron Rast was elevated to associate head coach at Santa Clara. Rast begins his eighth season with the program ... John Scott was added as full-time assistant at Binghamton. In 2000-01, Scott was an assistant women's soccer coach at Plattsburgh State ... Kyle Firebaugh was hired as an assistant coach at Knox.

Women's soccer -- Gretchen Randall was awarded responsibilities as head women's soccer and head softball coach at Massachusetts-Boston. Randall has been head women's soccer and basketball coach at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy ... Vanderbilt named Ronnie Coveleskie Hill as head coach.

Women's soccer assistants -- Santa Clara promoted Rich Manning to associate head coach. Manning enters his fourth season with the program ... Caldwell selected David Jones as an assistant coach ... Melissa Juhl was named as an assistant coach at Jacksonville State ... Jon Petersen and Becky Lien were added as assistants at Concordia (Minnesota) ... Binghamton chose Amanda Fox as an assistant. Softball -- Wesleyan (Connecticut) hired Jen Shea as head softball coach and assistant field hockey coach. Most recently, Shea served as co-head softball coach at Amherst ... Phyllis Guedry assumed duties as head coach at Nicholls State ... Mike Rappl was awarded a three-year contract extension as head coach at Canisius. In 22 years as head coach, Rappl has built a 504-222-2 record ... Cara Clark was appointed as head coach at Clarke to replace Tina Kuhle, who became head women's golf coach and will continue as head women's basketball coach at the school. Since April 2000, Clark has served as assistant varsity and head junior varsity softball coach at the high-school level ... UMBC hired Joe French as head coach. Men's and women's squash -- David Cukierman was named as head men's and women's coach at Wesleyan (Connecticut). For the last three years, Cukierman has been a coach, teaching professional and playing professional in Southern Bavaria, Germany ... Wellesley awarded head coaching duties to Shona Kerr, effective August 13.

Men's and women's swimming and diving -- Wells added Michelle Moosbrugger as head coach and aquatics coordinator ... Matt Barany was hired as head men's coach at James Madison, replacing Ryan Frost. Barany has spent the past two seasons as head women's coach at Randolph-Macon ... Rick Goerlitz was chosen as head men's and women's coach and aquatics director at Colby-Sawyer. The swimming program is scheduled to begin varsity competition in 2001, and the diving program is slated to begin competition during the 2002-03 season. Goerlitz has been head swimming and diving and water polo coach and aquatics director at Eaglebrook School in Massachusetts.

Men's and women's tennis -- Nik DeVore was selected as head men's coach at Loyola Marymount. For the last three seasons, DeVore has worked as head men's and women's coach at Morehead State ... Luther appointed Brian Huinker as head men's coach. Most recently, Huinker has been head tennis professional at Westfield Tennis Club in Cedar Rapids, Iowa ... Dann Nelson was awarded responsibilities as head men's and women's coach at Westminster (Missouri). Nelson replaces Steven Johns and has been an assistant men's and women's coach at Central Oklahoma ... Eastern Kentucky named Rob Oertel as head men's and women's coach. Oertel has coached at Denver and Indiana State ... York Strother was hired as head men's coach at UC Riverside, succeeding Mark Henry. Henry will continue as head women's coach at the school. Since 1992, Strother has been head women's coach at UTEP ... Southern Methodist chose Stephen Moore as head women's coach ... Rick Arrington, head women's coach at Clarke, assumed additional duties as head men's coach. Arrington enters his seventh year as head women's coach, replacing Dan Corken, who relinquished head coaching duties to focus more time on his duties with the school's Navy and Gold Club. Corken also relinquished responsibilities as director of the Robert and Ruth Kehl Center, but will continue as assistant athletics director ... Tim Heimann, an assistant football coach and head men's basketball coach at Knox, accepted additional duties as head women's tennis coach. Heimann will relinquish assistant football coaching duties after 24 years, but will continue as head men's basketball coach, a position he has held for 17 seasons.

Men's and women's tennis assistants -- Alabama chose Mario Rincon as an assistant men's coach ... Tad Berkowitz was tabbed as an assistant men's coach at Texas A&M.

Men's and women's track and field -- H. Glen Graham was awarded additional duties as head men's and women's track and field and cross country coach at Canisius. Last season, Graham worked as an assistant with the programs and will continue as an assistant football coach, a position he has held for four years ... Frostburg State hired Felix Moreno as head men's and women's coach. For the past two years, Moreno has been an assistant men's and women's cross country and track and field coach at Wisconsin-Platteville ... Northern Iowa awarded Chris Bucknam, head men's and women's track and cross country coach, with a four-year contract through 2004-05. Bucknam has guided the men's program for 18 seasons and the women's teams for four seasons ... Matt Kehrein was promoted to head coach at Lawrence, replacing Steve Jung. Kehrein also will retain assistant football coaching responsibilities at the school ... Dick Mann, head men's track and field coach at John Carroll for the past four years, was awarded additional duties as head women's track and field coach and men's and women's cross country coach ... Buena Vista hired Brett Carney as head track and field and cross country coach. Carney formerly has been head coach at Missouri Valley College and Johnson County (Kansas) Community College.

Men's and women's volleyball -- Kelly Sheffield was hired as head women's coach at Albany (New York). Most recently, Sheffield was top assistant at Clemson ... Linnea Donovan was hired as head women's coach at Clarke, and men's assistant Joe Fleckenstein was promoted to head men's coach at the school ... Colby-Sawyer hired Chad Braegelmann as head women's coach and recreation coordinator to succeed George Martin. Braegelmann most recently has been a graduate assistant at Northern State ... Kendra Marlowe was awarded responsibilities as head coach at Lawrence. Marlowe, who replaces Kim Tatro, has been assistant volleyball and softball coach at Denison for two years.

Men's and women's volleyball assistants -- Binghamton chose Mia Miranda as an assistant women's coach ... Barb Randall was selected as an assistant at Northern Iowa. Randall, who replaces Bobbi Petersen, has been coaching at Kirkwood (Iowa) Community College ... Doug Babington and Tracy McWilliams were named as assistant coaches at Rice ... Delaware elevated Melissa McLinden to full-time assistant women's coach.

Men's and women's water polo -- Cal State Northridge added Stuart Blumkin as head women's coach. The program is scheduled to begin competition during the 2001-02 season. Since 1998, Blumkin has been co-head junior varsity girls' water polo coach at the high-school level.

Wrestling -- Tony Islas was selected as head coach at Knox.

STAFF

Academic services -- Clancy Seymour was named as academic/vocational counselor for athletics at Canisius. Since 1998, Seymour has been assistant director of admissions/vocational counselor at the school ... Massachusetts-Boston hired Ed Suglia as athletics academic advisor. Suglia was associate director of athletics for academic services and compliance at West Chester from 1994 to 1996.

Administrative -- Robert Brigham announced plans to retire June 30 as special assistant to the president/compliance at Northern Illinois. Brigham has fulfilled various capacities for the school, including serving as athletics director (from 1968 to 1987), assistant football coach and head wrestling coach ... Paul Griffin, former athletics director at South Florida, was named as special consultant at Georgia Tech.

Athletic trainers -- Gigi Garcia was named as head athletic trainer at Florida International, replacing Julie Berg, who became an associate athletics director at the school. Garcia has been head trainer for the U.S. National Women's Soccer team ... Plattsburgh State chose Jason Pachter as athletic trainer ... Angela Aldrich was appointed as head athletic trainer at North Carolina A&T. For the past year, Aldrich has fulfilled the position on an interim basis.

Assistant athletic trainers -- Northern Arizona named Terri Groessl as assistant athletic trainer. Groessl has been an assistant athletic trainer at Washington (Missouri) since 1996 ... Loyola Marymount hired Sandra K. Olsen as an assistant athletic trainer.

Business manager -- Kevin Clougherty resigned as business manager at Humboldt State.

Communications assistant -- Wes Frahm was named as assistant director of athletics communications and marketing at Michigan Tech. For the past year, Frahm has worked as sports information director at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Development -- Albany (New York) appointed Don Ostrom as director of athletics development.

Equipment manager -- George Fox was selected as athletics equipment coordinator at Northern Arizona. Fox has been a courier with Federal Express.

Facilities -- Clarke named Casey Tauber as director of the Robert and Ruth Kehl Center, succeeding Dan Corken. Tauber has been athletics facilities supervisor and assistant baseball coach at Christopher Newport ... Kevin Buisman was named as athletics development coordinator for the Human Performance Center at Northern Iowa. Buisman will continue as associate athletics director, a position he has held since 1998 ... Virginia named Abby Boustead as facilities and event coordinator. Since February, Boustead has worked as event services coordinator for Intercollegiate Communications Company.

Marketing -- Jason Herbers was appointed as coordinator of marketing and promotions at Eastern Washington to succeed Todd McGann. Herbers has been promotions coordinator and marketing assistant at Wisconsin since 1998.

Marketing assistant -- Virginia Commonwealth tabbed Keith Rafter as assistant director of marketing. Rafter most recently has been assistant director of marketing at James Madison.

Media relations -- Tom Weber assumed duties as director of media services at Southern Illinois. Weber, who has been assistant sports information director at Vanderbilt, succeeds Fred Huff.

Media relations assistants -- North Dakota hired Joel Carlson as assistant media relations director. Carlson most recently has been an intern with the sports information office at Pittsburg State ... Danny Kambel assumed responsibilities as assistant director of athletics media relations at Indiana State. Kambel has been an intern at Indiana and Navy ... Matt McCullough was selected as assistant media relations director at Albany (New York) ... David Wahlstrom was announced as associate director of athletics media relations at Santa Clara. Since 1999, Wahlstrom has been sports information director at Grand Canyon.

Recruiting -- Pat Herbst was awarded additional duties as athletics recruiting coordinator at Clarke. Herbst will retain responsibilities as head men's and women's soccer coach.

Sports information -- Louisiana-Lafayette appointed Daryl Cetnar as sports information director ... Jeremy Agor was hired as sports information director at Plattsburgh State to replace Matt Mero, who will retain duties as head women's tennis coach for the school. For the last four years, Agor has been sports information director at North Carolina-Greensboro.

Sports information assistants -- Jennifer Armson was awarded duties as sports information intern at Penn State. Armson is a 2001 graduate of Northwestern, where she worked as a student assistant in the sports information office for two years ... Jim Mack was selected as assistant director of sports information at Drexel.

Strength and conditioning -- Northern Illinois released John Binkowski as strength and conditioning coach ... Kirk Adams was hired as strength and conditioning coach at North Carolina-Greensboro. Adams, who replaces Rob Taylor, has been a strength and conditioning assistant at Penn State ... West Virginia named Doug Elias as strength and conditioning coach. For the past three years, Elias has served as head strength and conditioning coordinator at South Florida.

Strength and conditioning assistant -- Cincinnati appointed Scott Greenawalt as assistant strength and conditioning coach and James Peluso as strength and conditioning intern. Greenawalt has been strength and conditioning intern for two years and Peluso is a June 2001 Cincinnati graduate.

Ticketing services assistant -- Illinois State chose Bethany Foss as assistant ticket manager.

Video coordinator -- Robert "Dusty" Rutledge was hired as football video coordinator at West Virginia, succeeding the retired Don Poluszek. Rutledge was a football administrative assistant at Indiana from 1997 to 2000.

CONFERENCES

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference appointed Larry Keating as an assistant commissioner.

Tammy Donovan and Rob Carolla were promoted to directors of communication at the Big East Conference. Donovan and Carolla joined the conference in 1996 and have been serving as assistant directors of communication.

The Northeast Conference appointed Corrinne Wright as assistant commissioner. For the past two years, Wright has been assistant director of athletics compliance at Syracuse.

Kristin Eden was hired as coordinator of compliance and internal operations at the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Most recently, Eden has been an intern with the governance staff at the NCAA national office.

The Mountain West Conference elevated Carolayne Henry to associate commissioner for compliance/senior woman administrator. For the past two years, Henry has been assistant commissioner for compliance/senior woman administrator.

ASSOCIATIONS

The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics announced Jostens as a corporate partner for a three-year term through 2003.

NATIONAL OFFICE

Lori Hendricks resigned as education outreach program coordinator at the national office.

Jim Johnson resigned as membership services/Division II governance liaison at the national office.

CORRECTION

The sport Gene Peluso coached was incorrectly listed in the July 2 issue of The NCAA Record. Peluso was hired as head men's lacrosse coach and assistant director for development at Rochester Institute of Technology.

NOTABLES

Marco Baron and Carolina Mayorga were chosen as recipients of the 2001 the Tennis Magazine/Arthur Ashe Jr. Leadership and Sportsmanship Award. The honor recognizes Arthur Ashe and his vision of the importance of education, sportsmanship and leadership. Baron, a senior at Mississippi State, also was named as winner of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association/Rafael Osuna Sportsmanship Award. Mayorga, a junior at Kentucky, has been an academic all-Southeastern Conference selection for the past two years.

DEATHS

Lawrence L. Boger, president emeritus at Oklahoma State, died May 19. Boger was 77.

Peter X. Finnerty, former athletics administrator at Pace, died recently at the age of 85. Finnerty served as athletics director, director of alumni relations and a vice-president at the school. He retired in 1988.

Whittier athletics director David A. Jacobs died July 7 after battling lung cancer. He was 58. Jacobs joined Whittier in 1971 as head men's basketball coach and associate physical education and recreation professor. The former chair of the Division III Men's Basketball Committee and the Nominating Committee was named athletics director in 1974 and continued coaching until 1995. Jacobs also served as a member of the Division III Championships Committee and the Legislative Review Committee.
