Conferences: The Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) has added Shenandoah University and Villa Julie College as associate members in the sport of men's lacrosse, beginning in spring 2002. With those two additions, the PAC will have seven members in men's lacrosse, enough to apply for automatic qualification to the Division III championship. The other members are Cabrini College, Eastern College, College Misericordia, Neumann College and Wesley College ... The Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association has added three associate members in football, beginning in fall 2004. The new members are the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. The other schools in the conference that play football are Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the University of Rochester, St. Lawrence University and Union College (New York) ... The Eastern College Athletic Conference has announced that Moravian College has been voted into the ECAC for the 2001-02 academic year.

Facilities: The new Wartburg College football and track stadium will be called Walson-Hoover Stadium, honoring Marv and Mary Walston, longtime Waverly, Iowa, residents and Wartburg supporters, and Gary and Donna Hoover of Rio Verde, Arizona, who made the lead gift to the project in honor of the Walstons. The new stadium will seat 4,000, and the entire project is worth $3.8 million.

Milestones: Larry Bock, in his 34th year as women's volleyball coach at Juniata College, posted his 900th win last month with a victory over Widener University. Bock, the only coach the Juniata women's program has ever known, is just the second NCAA women's volleyball coach in any division to reach that milestone, following Andy Banachowski of the University of California, Los Angeles, who reached the mark only 19 days before Bock. "To win 900 matches means a couple of things to me," Bock said. "One is that I have been around for a long time. The second is that I have been fortunate enough to have great players and assistant coaches help me along the way." The win over Widener also was the 1,000th overall volleyball win for Bock, who is 903-213 in women's volleyball and 100-91 in men's volleyball, which he coached from 1990 to 1995 ... John Gagliardi, St. John's University (Minnesota) became the third coach in college football history to coach 500 career college football games recently. Gagliardi is in his 53rd season as a college head coach and his 49th season at the school. Gagliardi is 379-111-11 ... Jean Lojko, women's volleyball coach at Greensboro College, earned her 400th victory last month. Lojko, in her 20th year coaching the Pride volleyball squad, has notched 400 wins against 273 losses, a .594 winning percentage. Lojko has been named Dixie Conference coach of the year four times ... Cynthia Holliday, women's volleyball coach at Ohio Wesleyan University, earned her 300th career victory earlier this month with a win over Washington and Jefferson College ... Pat Haws, men's soccer coach at Saint John's University (Minnesota) won his 250th career match last month. He is in his 24th season with the Johnnies ... Sheila Miech, women's soccer coach at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, became just the fifth coach in NCAA Division III women's soccer to reach 200 career victories. Miech, who is 200-71-16 and in her 15th season with the Pointers, is just the second female coach to reach the milestone. The Pointers have won eight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles and made seven NCAA Division III tournament appearances ... Gerry DiBartolo, men's soccer coach at Salisbury State University, notched his 200th career win recently. DiBartolo is in his 20th season with the Sea Gulls and has a career record of 201-129-24.

Miscellaneous: The Elmhurst College women's soccer team accomplished a feat on October 2 that no other team has done in the seven-year history of College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) women's soccer -- they defeated Wheaton College (Illinois). Wheaton, ranked No. 8 in the nation in Division III and No. 2 in the region, entered the game against the Bluejays with a 43-match conference winning streak. The Bluejays shut out the Thunder, 1-0, with a goal by sophomore Jeni Sweeney and six saves by goalie Katie Hathaway ... The Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) has unveiled new logos. The logos were designed by Kevin Rau of Rauhaus Graphic Design in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. For a downloadable copy of the new PAC logo, see www.northnet.net/~rauhaus/PAClogos.html ... The Marywood University men's soccer team broke a 55-game losing streak with a 5-2 victory over Cazenovia College last month. The previous win for the Pacers was a 1-0 victory October 14, 1997, over Mount St. Mary College (New York).
