The Division III Men's Golf Committee has forwarded a recommendation to the Division III Championships Committee to increase the number of participants in the Division III Men's Golf Championships by 12 individuals.

The committee, which met June 26-29 in Marco Island, Florida, is asking for an increase from 120 to 132 participants. If approved at the Championships Committee's September meeting, the increase would be in place for the 2002 event.

The group also requested an additional day of practice for the event. The current format has Sunday as the only practice day for the tournament. The request includes per diem and travel expenses.

In other items, the committee reviewed plans for the 2002 championships that will be hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan University at the Firethorn Golf Club in Lincoln, Nebraska. The dates of the event are set for May 12-16, 2002.

The committee also is soliciting bid proposals for the 2004 and 2005 championships. Institutions interested in hosting the event should contact Leon Smith, NCAA assistant director of championships, at the national office (317/917-6222).
