Florida Southern grabbed its second straight NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship May 16-19 in Rock Hill, South Carolina, setting the 72-hole record in the process. In posting a four-round total of 1,250, the Moccasins bested their total from last season's tournament victory.

"I think last year it showed we were a competitive team," said Florida Southern coach Robbie Davis. "This time, it shows it wasn't a fluke. This puts us on the board as a legitimate golfing program. This is huge. When you win two in a row, that says a lot."

Florida Southern freshman Jana Peterkova shot a final-round 75 to edge teammate Rachel Bell by one stroke for the individual championship. Carla Dobchuk of Nebraska-Kearney, one of eight individuals invited to the tournament, came in third with 306. Rollins' Freddie Seeholzer shot a final-round 73 to finish fourth. Florida Southern's Lisa Ball was fifth.

Rollins shot a final-round 311, two better than Florida Southern, but it wasn't enough to close the gap.

"All the credit goes to Florida Southern," said Rollins coach Julie Garner. "They played solidly and certainly deserved the victory."

Western New Mexico finished in third place, Longwood took fourth and Ferris State rounded out the top five.

With the Moccasins leading comfortably over second-place Rollins, the tournament's focus shifted to the final few holes of the individual competition.

Bell took a one-stroke lead with a birdie on the 15th hole, but then bogeyed the par-3 17th when she missed a three-foot par putt.

Peterkova, playing in the group ahead of Bell, put her approach shot on the sloping 18th green in the back, with the pin placement in the front of the green. Peterkova three-putted for bogey, opening the door again for Bell.

"That was an extremely difficult pin placement," Davis said. "You could not be above the hole."

Bell hit her approach shot just short of the green, which was a good play. But her chip skidded up to the back of the green and Bell three-putted for her only double-bogey of the tournament.

"My worst hole was the last hole of the final round," Bell said.

"I'm very happy," said Peterkova, who finished with a 14-over 302. "I didn't expect it at all. It's a nice surprise."
