Milestones: Jim Kiernan, Dowling College, 300 career wins in women's softball. Kiernan reached the milestone with a 6-2 victory over Southern Connecticut State University May 1. Kiernan is in his 15th season at Dowling ... Frank "Porky" Vieira, University of New Haven, 1,000 victories in baseball. Vieira is the only coach in New Haven's 39 seasons of baseball. He won his 1,000th game May 5 with a doubleheader sweep of American International. Vieira is the 30th coach in NCAA history to reach the milestone. "All the other milestones were something, but this one was very, very tough," Vieira told a reporter. "When I started thinking about that one-zero-zero-zero, that was tough." After the victories, his career record stood at 1,000-259-4 ... Central Missouri State University head baseball coach Brad Hill recorded his 300th career coaching win (all at Central Missouri State) with an 11-8 victory over Washburn University April 29. In his seventh season at Central Missouri State, Hill has a career record of 300-74, has won six Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association championships and four NCAA regionals.

Miscellaneous: Albany State University coach Stanley Stubbs became the first coach to win consecutive Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball championships when his Golden Rams defeated Kentucky State University in the title game of the conference tournament. Stubbs' Paine College team won the 2000 championship.
