Milestones: Jodi Gault, University of Pittsburgh, Johnstown, 400 career victories in women's basketball. Coming into the season, Gault was the 11th winningest active coach in the nation with a winning percentage of .782. Her Pittsburgh-Johnstown teams have averaged 22 wins per season, and she has led the Lady Cats to 11 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championship appearances, including a trip to the semifinals in 1987. Gault reached the milestone in a 105-54 win over Columbia Union College January 6 ... Elaine Kebbe, Belmont Abbey College, 300 victories in women's basketball. The landmark win came January 5 over Lees-McRae College ... Tom Shirley, Philadelphia University, 400 career victories in women's basketball. Shirley, who also serves as Philadelphia U.'s director of athletics and who recently completed a term on the Division II Management Council, reached the milestone with a 58-35 victory C.W. Post Campus/Long Island University on January 13. In his 20th season as a head coach and his 12th season at Philadelphia U., Shirley now has a career mark of 400-170. Before coaching at Philadelphia U., Shirley coached Allentown College for eight seasons, posting a 149-73 record ... Ronnie O. Spry, Paine College, 400 career victories in men's basketball. "After 20-some-odd years," Spry told the Augusta Chronicle, "you start to wind down a little bit and start to put things in perspective. It ranks up there with the many other blessings I've received and the honors I've gotten. But I've just been fortunate to have good young men who have believed in me and believed in this program." Spry, who also serves as Paine's athletics director, won his 400th game with an 80-76 victory over Georgia College & State University November 18.

Miscellaneous: Fred Jacoby, commissioner of the Lone Star Conference, has been honored by the Division II Commissioners Association with the group's Award of Merit. The award is given by the association in recognition of an individual's service to the betterment of intercollegiate athletics, especially Division II athletics. Jacoby has more than 52 years of service in intercollegiate athletics, including six years as Lone Star Conference commissioner. He also served as commissioner of the Wisconsin State University Conference (1966-71), the Mid-American Conference (1971-82) and the Southwest Athletic Conference (1982-83). Tom Brown, commissioner of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference and president of the Division II Commissioners Association, said: "Fred has always thought first of the student-athlete in his endeavors as a coach and administrator. He's one of the great people who work in college athletics today." Previous winners of the award include Noel Olson, former commissioner of the North Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and Bob Vanatta, former commissioner of the Sunshine State Conference.
