As the holidays approached, members of athletics teams at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, got in the sprit by giving back to their community.

The Tar Heels teams participated in Share Your Christmas, a program that matches individuals and groups with disadvantaged citizens to share in the sprit of the holidays. The teams helped more than 20 Chapel Hill families.

Each North Carolina team received a family's wish list. On the wish lists were toys, games, clothing and household items for families ranging in size from two to 13. The North Carolina student-athletes purchased, wrapped and, in many cases, helped deliver the gifts to the families.

"Athletes at Carolina have a lot given to them and it is nice to give back," said Marina Chase, a sophomore who is a member of the North Carolina cross country and track and field teams. Chase helped organize the effort, along with women's lacrosse assistant coach Jen Larsen.
