Spring championships preview -- Women's Rowing

Dates and site: May 25-27 at Lake Lanier in Gainesville, Georgia.

Field: Ten teams, all selected at-large by the seven-member Women's Rowing Committee. In addition, nine eight-woman boats from institutions not represented in the team competition will be selected. The championship provides for three events (I Eights; II Eights; Fours), each covering a 2,000-meter course, and a total of 311 competitors. A minimum of four I Eight boats (36 competitors) will be allocated to participants from Divisions II and III.

Selection date: May 15.

2000 champion: Brown.

Top team contenders: Washington, Brown, Virginia, Princeton.

Washington and Brown have earned all the glory during the championship's initial four-year NCAA run. The Huskies prevailed in 1997 and 1998, and the Bears have taken the last two crowns.
