The NCAA News

Division I

Dates and sites: First- and second-round games will be played November 10 and 11 at campus sites. The semifinals and finals will be November 16 and 18 at Kent State.

Field: 16 teams.

Selection date: November 6.

2000 champion: Old Dominion.

Top team contenders: Maryland, Old Dominion, North Carolina, Michigan.

Players to watch: Colleen Barbieri (Maryland), Angie Loy (Old Dominion), Abby Martin (North Carolina,), Stephanie Johnson (Michigan).

Division II

Dates and sites: The semifinals and final will be played November 2 and 4 on the campus of one of the competing institutions.

Field: Four teams, two from each of the North and South regions.

Selection date: October 28.

2000 champion: Lock Haven.

Top team contenders: Bentley, Lock Haven, East Stroudsburg; Bloomsburg.

Players to watch: Shanna Fritz (Bloomsburg), Allyson Bunce (Bentley), Erika Grap (Lock Haven), Brianne Baylor (Longwood).

Division III

Dates and sites: All tournament games will be played at campus sites. Two first-round games will be played October 31. Second- and third-round games will be November 3-4. The semifinals and final will be November 10-11 at Springfield.

Field: 18 teams.

Selection date: October 28.

2000 champion: William Smith.

Top team contenders: Salisbury State, College of New Jersey, Rowan, William Smith, Cortland State.

Players to watch: Lesley Snock (Rowan), Kerri Hunt (College of New Jersey), Joanna Fenske (Salisbury State), Julie Gentner (Cortland State).

The 1989 Lock Haven team (17-4-2) was the only Division III squad to win the national title with four or more losses during a season. Eight championship teams have been undefeated, while seven have suffered only one loss during the title run.
