With victories in both men's cross country events, Denver raced to its second consecutive National Collegiate Men's and Women's Skiing Championships crown March 7-10 at Middlebury.

The Pioneers, who last year won their first title since 1971, held off second-place Vermont, 649-605. The victory gives Denver 16 team skiing championships, breaking the record it shared with Colorado going into this year's event. Despite not winning an event this year, Colorado maintained its lead in all-time individual titles with 69. Denver has 60, second place on the all-time list.

The champions swept the top three places in the 10-kilometer classical cross country race, led by Wolf Wallendorf. Jorn Frohs was second, followed by last year's classical winner, Pietro Broggini. Broggini captured the 20-kilometer freestyle cross country crown, as teammate Torin Koos finished seventh. Broggini won the freestyle event last year.

Nevada's Katerina Hanusova, a transfer who won the women's freestyle race last year while skiing for Colorado, won both the 15-kilometer freestyle and the five-kilometer classical cross country races this year. She is the first woman to win both cross country races since Colorado's Line Selnes in 1998.

Vermont took both giant slalom races; Utah won both slalom events. The Catamounts' Erica MacConnell won the women's giant slalom, going one-two with teammate Alexandra Krebs. In the men's giant slalom, John Minahan took first, while defending champion and teammate Matthew Knittle was third.

In the slaloms, Utah's Petra Svet won the women's race. Defending champion Cecile Hagen-Larsen of Denver was sixth. For the men, Utah's Jernej Bukovic was first.
