In an event known for winning streaks, Alaska Fairbanks became the third team to put together a three-peat with a dominating performance at the National Collegiate Men's and Women's Rifle Championships March 8-10 in Columbus, Ohio. The title is the fourth for the Nanooks, who won their first crown in 1994.

The winning team of Matthew Emmons, Melissa Mulloy, Per Sandberg and Karl Olsson won both the smallbore and air rifle team events to compile an aggregate total of 6,283 points.

Kentucky, which finished runner-up in 1997, did so again -- but just barely -- besting third-place West Virginia's total of 6,174 by one.

Emmons claimed the smallbore and air rifle titles for himself in the individual competitions. Teammates Sandberg and Olsson finished second and third, respectively, in smallbore. Ne- braska's Amanda Trujillo finished second in the air rifle competition, while Tennessee Tech's Maxim Shub and Xavier's Thrine Kane tied for third.
