CONVENTION

Divisions II, III legislation mailed to membership

A total of 76 proposals -- 44 in Division II and 32 in Division III -- are included in the Second Publication of Proposed Legislation for the 2001 Convention.

The publication was mailed September 23 to the Divisions II and III memberships.

Included are 64 proposals produced from the division governance structures -- 38 sponsored by the Division II Presidents Council and 26 sponsored by the Division III Presidents Council.

The Second Publication of Proposed Legislation was mailed to chief executive officers, faculty athletics representatives, directors of athletics, senior woman administrators and compliance coordinators at Divisions II and III institutions. Conference commissioners also received copies.

HONORS PROGRAM

Nomination deadline nearing for Today's Top VIII recognition

Nominations for fall sports candidates for the 2000 Honors Program must be received at the NCAA national office by November 1.

Nomination folders have been mailed to personnel at all member institutions.

The folders contain nomination forms for the 2000 Today's Top VIII and the Award of Valor. The awards will be presented at the Honors Dinner January 7, 2001, during the NCAA Convention in Orlando, Florida.

DIVISION I

AEC Cabinet forwards amateurism proposals

The NCAA Division I Academics/Eligibility/Compliance Cabinet has given final approval to a set of proposals designed to deregulate certain amateurism bylaws.

At its recent meeting, the cabinet approved proposals submitted by its Subcommittee on Agents and Amateurism and agreed to send them to the Division I Management Council in October.

DIVISION I

Cabinet wants governance structure to review football

The Division I Championships/Competition Cabinet has recommended that important issues in college football be tackled by appropriate groups in the governance structure.

The action at the cabinet's September 12-14 meeting were in reaction to a recommendation from the Division I Football Issues Committee. That group endorsed a comprehensive study of football by a group appointed by the Division I Board of Directors.

GAMBLING

House committee supports bill to ban college sports betting

The House Judiciary Committee has favorably reported H.R. 3575, the College Sports Integrity Act.

CHAMPIONSHIPS

Volleyball anniversary video to be produced

NCAA Productions will produce a 20th anniversary "Women's Volleyball Championship Highlight Video" to be released in January 2001. Highlights of the 2000 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship will be included.

Twenty years of NCAA women's volleyball championships will be reviewed in chronological order, with a special emphasis on teams that have won multiple championships. The video also will include interviews with past and present players and coaches.

The hour-long video will sell for $24.95 in VHS format. It can be purchased after November 1 by logging on to www.ncaavolleyball.net or by calling the national office.
