Field: The Division II Championships Committee has approved a qualifying procedure that allows for a maximum of 236 student-athletes.

Dates and site: May 25-27 at St. Augustine's.

Information/results: The fax-on-demand telephone number is 770/563-1133 (pin code 1915); request numbers are 1629 for dates/site/schedule, 5311 for qualifiers, 5312 for first-day results, 5313 for second-day results, 5314 for third-day results and 5315 for finals-only results. Results will be published in the June 5 issue of The NCAA News.

Championships notes: Abilene Christian finished first in five of the last six championships, including the two most recent meets. St. Augustine's, runner-up in both 1998 and 1999, interrupted the Wildcats' run of titles by winning in 1997. There is a strong possibility the teams will occupy the top two spots once again. Abilene Christian extended its string of Division II indoor track and field titles to eight in March, but only after edging North Dakota State by one point and third-place St. Augustine's by four. The most recent performance list for the outdoor season shows four Abilene Christian athletes holding top spots -- Geraldine George (javelin throw), Dawnyel Newhouse (long jump), Shawntel Newhouse (100-meter hurdles) and Hillerie Shelton (triple jump). St. Augustine's Tanya Oxley has the fastest 200- and 400-meter dash times, with teammates Anna Teschmaker (100-meter dash) and Juliet Brown (200) both ranked second. North Dakota State should be led by Julia Karst-Gray in the shot put and Jill Theeler and Tamara Wigley-Brudy in the 400-meter dash.
