The Division II Men's Golf Committee proposed a regional realignment that would take effect for the 2002 season at its annual meeting July 11-14 in Indianapolis.

The committee proposed that the current regional system should be changed to have three major areas of the country: East, Central and West. The recommendation will go to the Division II Championships Committee for consideration in September.

This proposal would eliminate districts, which currently are used. District representatives, who report to the committee regarding teams in their district, would be retained to work with the new regionals, if the system is approved.

The committee also awarded the 2001 championships to Grand Valley State University. The 2001 championships will be played at the Meadows Golf Club in Allendale, Michigan. The committee also decided to award regional sites to Bryant College, Queens College (North Carolina) and Drury College.

In other action, the committee recommended that Allen M. Cassell of Mount Olive College be named as chair of the committee. Also, the committee noted that Russell A. Bloom, assistant athletics director at Central Missouri State University, would join the committee as a representative from the West region.
