Southeastern Oklahoma State, led by the dominating pitching of Aaron Thompson, won the Division II Baseball Championship, defeating Fort Hays State, 7-2, in the championship game June 3 at Paterson Field in Montgomery, Alabama.

Southeastern Oklahoma State (43-12) won its first title behind Thompson (11-2), who was named the tournament's most outstanding player. Thompson allowed just eight hits and two runs in the championship game while striking out three and walking none. Fellow pitcher Mark Milburn shared the tournament's top-pitcher honors with Thompson. The two pitched all but one of Southeastern Oklahoma State's four games and allowed just four runs.

First baseman Damon Lewis, also an all-tournament pick, went 4-for-4 in the championship game, while shortstop Kevin Ferguson added two hits.

Fort Hays State and Southeastern Oklahoma State played to a 2-2 draw through five innings. Southeastern Oklahoma State broke the tie with two runs in the fifth and never looked back.

B.J. McVay started the inning by reaching on a fielding error on his sacrifice bunt. Matt Bales came home on a fielder's choice and Jeremy McCarty singled to score McVay. Bales later scored on a wild pitch. Southeastern Oklahoma State added a run in the sixth and two in the seventh to pull away.

Ryan Callaway and Ian Van Kooten each had two hits in the losing effort for Fort Hays State, which was making its first Division II championship appearance. The Tigers finished the season 54-12.

The all-tournament team included catcher Kevin Kay, North Florida; first baseman Lewis; second baseman Jesus Villarreal, Fort Hays State; third baseman Preston James, Southeastern Oklahoma State; shortstop Jason Patty, Fort Hays State; outfielder Jerry Williams, Southeastern Oklahoma State; outfielder Ryan Sorrels, Indianapolis; outfielder Nick Steppe, North Florida; designated hitter Dan DeCola, Slippery Rock; pitcher Milburn; and pitcher Thompson.
