Winter Championships Preview -- Division I Women's Swimming and Diving

Field: The maximum number of participants allowed is 270. All qualifiers who have met the "A" time standard will be admitted in the meet; those who have met the "B" time standard will be considered until the event is filled. No team is allowed more than 18 competitors.

Dates and sites: Diving zone regionals will be held at a campus site in each zone March 10-11. Indiana will host the three-day championships March 16-18 at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis.

Championships notes: Georgia's Lady Bulldogs wrestled the title from defending champion Stanford in 1999 to claim their first national championship. Kristy Kowal returns for top-ranked Georgia to defend her titles in the 100- and 200-yard breaststrokes. Kowal sparkled in midseason, winning three events in a 165-135 dual-meet victory over No. 2 Arizona. No. 3 Stanford also will be strong behind proven stars Catherine Fox and Misty Hyman.
