Field: The Division I Championships/Competition Cabinet has approved a qualifying procedure that allows for a maximum of 270 student-athletes.

Dates and site: Arkansas will host the meet March 10 and 11 at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Information/results: The fax-on-demand telephone number is 770/563-1133 (pin code 1915); 5277 for day one results, 5278 for day two results and 5279 for finals-only results. Championships results will be published in the March 27 issue of The NCAA News.

Championships notes: The scene shifts away from the RCA Dome in Indianapolis for the first time since 1989. Texas posted its second straight title in 1999 by winning the 1,600-meter relay, the meet's final event. The Longhorns own five first-place team finishes, second only to LSU's eight. LSU, which finished second last year, has a top sprinter in Peta-Gaye Dowdie. She won the 200-meter dash last year with a meet-record time of 22.83 seconds and has the best qualifying mark so far this season. Dowdie also established a 55-meter dash meet record of 7.24 seconds in 1999 in the preliminaries, but was knocked out of the final with a false start. South Carolina is off to a strong start with top-ranked athletes in the 400-meter dash and 1,600-meter relay, and with athletes ranked among the top five in five other events.
