Conferences: The Patriot League Council of Presidents has voted unanimously to formally accept American University as the league's eighth full member. American joins Bucknell University, Colgate University, The College of the Holy Cross, Lafayette College, Lehigh University, the U.S. Military Academy and the U.S. Naval Academy as full members in the Patriot League. The Eagles are expected to begin a full league schedule in 18 sports beginning in the 2001-02 academic year. American has competed in the Colonial Athletic Association since its inception in 1985. The Patriot League also announced that it is no longer requiring its ban on athletics scholarships in order to accommodate American, which offers scholarships in all of its sports. To ensure continued academic integrity, however, Patriot League Commissioner Carolyn Schlie Femovich indicated that league members will be required to share admissions information on athletes and other students.
