Facilities: The University of Nevada, Las Vegas, announced that its women's athletics programs will receive more than $3 million in gifts from four Las Vegas donors. The private financial support will provide $1.85 million of a total construction cost of $2.1 million for a new women's softball stadium and a $1 million endowment to establish a new women's golf program, as well as operating support for that program. "This tremendous support for softball and the new women's golf team is vitally important and will help us move UNLV even closer to true equity between men's and women's athletics programs," said UNLV President Carol Harter. The new softball stadium will be located on the west side of the UNLV campus. The facility is expected to be completed in time for the 2001 women's softball season ... Ball State University broke ground on a new athletic training facility earlier this month. The facility, to be constructed adjacent to the school's football stadium, will house weight- and strength-training equipment for student-athletes, meeting and locker rooms for the football team and a sports-medicine facility ... Harvard University unveiled the two newest additions to its athletics landscape earlier this month. Jordan Field, the school's first artificial-turf facility and the home of the field hockey and men's and women's lacrosse teams, was dedicated before Harvard's men's lacrosse game against Princeton University April 15. The Breen Tennis Center, an 18-court outdoor hard-court facility, was christened the next day in a men's match against the University of Pennsylvania ... Lafayette College has announced it has received an anonymous gift for a new artificial-turf field for the field hockey team. Construction of the field is expected to be completed in time for the 2000 season.

Sports sponsorship: Hofstra University announced the addition of women's golf to the athletics program beginning September 2000.

Milestones: DePaul University's women's softball coach Eugene Lenti won the 600th game of his coaching career on April 9 when the Blue Demons defeated the University of Louisville, 1-0, in the opening game of a double-header. Lenti is in his 19th season at DePaul and is now 601-333-3 ... Elon College baseball coach Mike Kennedy won his 100th career game with a 7-4 victory over the University of North Carolina, Asheville, March 25. Elon swept both ends of the double-header to run Kennedy's overall record to 101-81-1.
