The NCAA News

Field: Twelve teams will be selected May 7. The Ivy Group and Colonial Athletic Association champions will gain automatic qualification. All other teams will be selected at large with a minimum of one team from each region being selected. Although Division II teams are eligible, there is no automatic qualification for such a team as there was last season.

Dates and sites: First-round games are May 11 on campus. The quarterfinals are May 14 on campus. The semifinals (May 19) and championship (May 21) will be held at The College of New Jersey.

Information/results: The fax-on-demand number is 770/563-1133 (pin code 1915). The request number for semifinal results is 5130 and the request number for championship-game results is 5131. Results also will be published in the June 5 issue of The NCAA News.

Championship notes: For the last five years, no team other than Maryland has needed to be mentioned. The Terps have won the last five championships and went undefeated in three of those five years; however, Atlantic Coast Conference rival North Carolina slid past the seemingly invincible defending champions, 14-13, in Chapel Hill in the second game of the season. In the next eight games, it was business as usual for the perennial champions, as no team came closer than seven goals.
