The NCAA News

Joe Taylor,
football coach,
Hampton University

"I wonder how many here are captains of their teams and if we could get them earlier so that they can go back and effect change. And I wonder how many plan to become coaches, because coaching needs people like this."

Willis Wilson,
men's basketball coach,
Rice University

"I strongly believe coaches need to be more involved. This is an opportunity for student-athletes to learn how to engage coaches with their ideas. The one thing that is very evident is that it's such a diverse group. The NCAA is so large, it's unique. There are so few large organizations with such diversity."

Dianne Nolan,
women's basketball coach, Fairfield University

"It's pretty special to see how so many student-athletes bond so quickly; how they articulate their feelings. It's truly mind-boggling and refreshing."

George Purgavie,
men's soccer coach,
Bates College

"The NCAA has made a clear objective so that the student-athlete becomes an integral part of academics and athletics."
