More than 1,200 athletics directors, administrators and conference commissioners will gather to discuss important issues in intercollegiate athletics at the 35th annual National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) convention June 11-14 at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, Florida.

In addition, the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators and the National Association of Athletic Development Directors and the National Collegiate Licensing Association, all administered by NACDA, will hold their annual workshops in conjunction with the convention from June 9-11.

After the NACDA convention, the annual NACDA Management/Leadership Institute will be held June 14-17.

J. C. Watts, a U.S. representative from Oklahoma and former football student-athlete at the University of Oklahoma, will deliver the convention keynote address. The convention also will feature the Diversity Speakers Forum, with Anita DeFrantz, vice-president of the International Olympic Committee; Richard Lapchick, director of the Center for the Study of Sport in Society; and Ronald J. Stratten, NCAA vice-president for education services. The forum will be followed by a diversity training seminar given by Lin Dawson, chief operating officer of the Center for the Study of Sport in Society.

There also will be three roundtable sessions, along with divisional breakout sessions. Some of the topics slated for discussion during the breakout sessions include stress management for athletics administrators, nontraditional-season legislation in Division III, proper athletic training coverage and trends in intercollegiate athletics.

The annual awards luncheon will be held June 12. In addition to the presentation of NACDA's highest honor, the James J. Corbett Memorial Award, the luncheon also features the presentation of the NACDA/NIT Athletics Directors Award, the NACDA/Continental Airlines AD of the Year Awards and induction ceremonies for the NACDA Hall of Fame. Bonnie Bernstein of CBS Sports will serve as emcee.

The NACDA Scholarship Awards Luncheon, presented by Sears, will be held June 13 and will feature the presentation of the four Sears Directors' Cup Trophies (NCAA Divisions I, II, III and the NAIA), the Sears Directors' Cup Postgraduate Scholarship Awards, the inaugural John McLendon Memorial Minority Postgraduate Scholarship Awards and the NACDA Foundation Football Scholarship Awards. Michele Tafoya of ESPN will be the luncheon emcee, while Julius Erving and Joanna McLendon will present the inaugural McLendon scholarships.

The evening of June 12 features the Honda Sports Awards Program with the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year Banquet. At that event, the Honda-Broderick Cup will be presented to the female athlete of the year. Ann Meyers of ESPN will emcee the banquet.

In addition to the many panel and roundtable discussions, more than 160 athletics-related exhibitors will be on hand to display their wares in the exhibit hall.
