A variety of impact players -- both on the field and in the classroom -- highlight this year's GTE Academic All-America teams in baseball and softball, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Casey Myers of Arizona State University, this year's Pacific-10 Conference player of the year and the Sun Devils' leader in almost every offensive category, was named Team Member of the Year in the university division, while outfielder Andy Reeb of St. Francis (Illinois) was named Team Member of the Year in the college division.

Reeb batted .435 this season and made the GTE first team for the second straight year.

In softball, pitcher Lana Moran of the University of Oklahoma and outfielder Michelle Wiest of North Dakota State University, who helped their teams win the Division I and Division II national championships, respectively, were named to the first team.

Moran was 26-2 on the season with a 1.28 earned-run average and five shutouts. She was named the university division's Team Member of the Year.

Wiest hit .369 this season and drove in two runs in the championship game for North Dakota State.

Pitcher Jennifer Segner of Muskingum College was named the college division Team Member of the Year.

The GTE Academic All-America Teams in baseball and softball are selected by a vote of the 1,800-member CoSIDA. Nominees must be a varsity starter or key reserve and must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.200 (4.000 scale).
