National Collegiate Men's Water Polo

Field: The championship features a four-team, single-elimination format. One team each from the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, the Collegiate Water Polo Association and the Western Water Polo Association automatically qualify. The remaining team is selected at large without geographical restriction.

Dates and site: The championship will be conducted December 4-5 at UC San Diego.

Information/results: The fax-on-demand telephone number is 770/563-1133 (pin code 1915); request numbers are 1698 for bracket/schedule, and 5332, 5333 and 5334 for championship semifinals, third-place-game and championship-game results, respectively. Championship results will appear in the December 20 issue of The NCAA News.

Championship notes: In an early rematch of the 1998 title game, Stanford avenged last season's loss to defending champion Southern California, 11-10. The Cardinal lost two of three all-tournament team members from 1998, including their goalkeeper. Southern California's Marko Pintaric, the most outstanding offensive player from last year's championship, and all-tournament honoree Ivan Babic will lead the run for a title repeat.
