Championships notes: Adams State returned to the winner's spot in 1998 after a three-year absence with a six-point victory over runner-up Western State. The Grizzlies claimed a three-peat from 1992 through 1994, making it four titles in its seven years of NCAA membership. Adams State is atop the most recent Division II Cross Country Coaches Association poll, with Western State second. The two teams met early this season at the Colorado State Open. Adams State won the team title, followed by Western State in second place ... Abilene Christian, Minnesota State-Mankato and Missouri Southern State, currently ranked third, fourth and fifth, respectively, maintained that order as they took the second through fourth positions at the Jock's Nitch Missouri Southern Stampede on the championships course. The team champion in the event was defending Division I champion Arkansas.
