Championships notes: Adams State remained unbeaten in NCAA championships after claiming the 1998 title with three competitors in the top 11 finishers. The Grizzlies made their NCAA debut in 1992 and have won seven straight crowns. They appear to be primed for another title run this year based on a second-place finish in the Colorado State Open, just 11 points behind a Colorado squad that placed seventh in the 1998 Division I championships ... Western State, which has five runner-up finishes in the last seven years, currently is third behind Adams State and UC Davis in the Division II Cross Country Coaches Association rankings. The Mountaineers were fourth in the Colorado State Open ... Fourth-ranked Edinboro was the top non-Division I team in the Spiked Shoe Invite at Penn State, finishing fourth overall and just in front of seventh-ranked Shippensburg.
