Nominations solicited for committee vacancies in 2000

Nominations are being accepted for vacancies that will occur in September 2000 on Divisions I and II general committees and Divisions I, II and III sports committees, as well as Association-wide and common committees.

A total of 123 vacancies are anticipated on NCAA committees in September 2000, including 90 vacancies on division-specific committees and 33 vacancies on Association-wide and common committees.

Each division's nominees for division-specific and Association-wide and common committees will be considered through the processes that have been established in each division for filling committee vacancies.

All nomination materials are to be sent to Lori L. Braa, NCAA committee coordinator, at the national office. The fax number is 317/917-6808. The deadline for submission of nomination materials for all of the vacancies listed in the accompanying chart is November 26, 1999.

Information about each division's process, as well as information about specific committee vacancies, follows.

Division I

A total of 47 vacancies will be filled on Division I-specific general and sports committees and 24 Division I vacancies will be filled on Association-wide or common committees.

Nominations will be accepted only from the 30 conferences represented in the governance structure (the conferences are listed in Constitution 4.2.1 of the 1999-00 NCAA Division I Manual).

Conferences must submit two completed forms for each nominee: the Division I Nomination Form and the Division I Nominee Information Form. Completed forms must be submitted by the end of business November 26, 1999.

Regardless of whether an individual has been nominated previously, the conference must submit the two required forms for each nominee.

Information will be compiled and forwarded to the appropriate appointing bodies in Division I. Vacancies with terms that begin September 2000 are anticipated to be filled by the end of April 2000.

If an individual is eligible for reappointment, the individual's conference must submit the Division I Nomination Form to confirm the conference's support of the reappointment. It is not necessary to complete the Division I Nominee Information Form for individuals eligible for reappointment. Reappointment is not guaranteed but is at the discretion of the appointing body.

Please note that this article does not contain information regarding Division I cabinet vacancies effective September 1, 2000. That information will be provided directly to the 30 Division I conferences in early December.

Division II

A total of 21 vacancies will be filled on Division II-specific general and sports committees and five Division II vacancies will be filled on Association-wide and common committees.

Nominations will be accepted from any source on a Division II Nomination Form. Once a written nomination is received, a Nominee Information Form will be faxed to the nominee. All completed Nominee Information Forms must be submitted by the end of business November 26, 1999.

Information will be compiled and provided to the Division II Nominating Committee, which will meet in February 1999 to formulate its recommendations.

Recommendations for appointments to sports committees will be forwarded to the Division II Championships Committee for selection and then to the Division II Management Council for ratification. Recommendations for appointments to Division II general committees will be forwarded to the Management Council for selection and then to the Division II Presidents Council for ratification.

Vacancies with terms that begin September 2000 are anticipated to be filled by the end of April 2000.

Regardless of whether an individual has submitted nomination materials previously, a new nominee information form must be completed and submitted for all nominees.

Division III

A total of 22 vacancies will be filled on Division III-specific sports committees and six Division III vacancies will be filled on Association-wide and common committees.

Written nominations will be accepted from any source. Once a written nomination is received, a Nominee Information Form will be faxed to the nominee. All completed Nominee Information Forms must be submitted by the end of business November 26, 1999.

Information will be compiled and provided to the Division III Nominating Committee, which will meet in February 2000 to formulate its recommendations.

Recommendations for appointments to sports committees will be forwarded to the Division III Championships Committee for approval and then to the Division III Management Council and Presidents Council for ratification.

Vacancies with terms that begin September 2000 are anticipated be filled by the end of April 2000.

Regardless of whether an individual has submitted nomination materials previously, a new nominee information form must be completed and submitted for all nominees.

Association-wide/common committees

Each division will solicit and select nominees for Association-wide and common committees using the same procedures detailed above for division-specific committees.

Division I will fill 24 vacancies on these committees, Division II will fill five vacancies and Division III will fill six vacancies.
