Ready chosen as men's assistant at Coppin State

Coppin State has named Stephanie Ready as an assistant men's basketball coach. Ready has been head women's volleyball coach and assistant softball coach at the school.

Ready is only the second female to join a Division I men's basketball coaching staff. She will continue as head volleyball coach, a position she has held since 1998, but will relinquish duties as assistant softball coach.

A two-sport standout as a student-athlete at Coppin State, Ready competed in basketball and volleyball. She ranks among the school's all-time basketball leaders in steals (second), assists (fourth), points (eighth) and rebounds (10th).

Ready graduated cum laude in 1998 with a bachelor's degree in psychology.

Pearson has been a marketing and sales representative with the National Basketball Association's Minnesota Timberwolves since 1998 ... Blair Cash hired as sports information director at George Fox. Cash replaces Rob Felton, who resigned ... Louis J. Noce hired as sports information director at Carnegie Mellon to replace Jon Surmacz. Noce was assistant sports information director at Cortland State ... Adams State hired Chris Day as sports information director.

Sports information assistants -- Lee Wright accepted assistant sports information director responsibilities at West Georgia ... Manhattanville chose Howie Burke as sports information assistant. Burke is a 1999 graduate of the school ... Alfred Kojima added as assistant sports information director at Saint Leo ... Hartwick selected Sean Cotten as sports information assistant ... Sports medicine -- Northern Iowa hired Darryl Conway as director of sports medicine to succeed Terry Noonan. Conway has been head athletic trainer and lecturer in the health, physical education, recreation and dance department at Morgan State since 1998.

Strength and conditioning -- St. John's (New York) elevated William Martinov to director of strength and conditioning/equipment operations.

Strength and conditioning assistant -- Helen Haarlander selected as assistant strength and conditioning coach at Syracuse. Haarlander is a May graduate of Springfield.

Ticketing services -- Dann Tervo appointed as ticket manager at Marquette. Tervo has been assistant athletics ticket manager at Minnesota for three years.

CONFERENCES

The Atlantic 10 Conference selected Marie Koch as assignor of field hockey officials and Nick Cinquanto as assignor of soccer officials.

Pete Rhoda named assistant director of information services at Conference USA. Rhoda has been assistant sports information director at Navy since July 1998.

The Big South Conference named Cindy D'Amico and Shemika Turner as interns.

ASSOCIATIONS

Chris Walker added as assistant media relations director with the Cotton Bowl.

NATIONAL OFFICE

LuAnn Humphrey added as an enforcement representative at the NCAA, effective October 4. Since 1992, Humphrey has been in private law practice in Indianapolis.


DEATHS

Paul Reyna, a freshman defensive tackle at Boise State, died August 23 from a massive head injury sustained during scrimmage five days earlier. He was 19.

Edinboro assistant basketball coach Bryant Houston died recently when his car skidded out of control on a wet road and hit a utility pole. He was 42.

Robert Hulton, former coach and athletics director at Gettysburg, died August 25. He was 78. Hulton came to Gettysburg as head men's basketball coach in 1957, a position he held for 20 more years. Hulton also served as head men's tennis coach for 28 years and head baseball coach for four seasons. From 1983 until his retirement in 1989, Hulton fulfilled athletics director responsibilities for the school.
