Meyer selected as new NCAA director of education outreach

Jane C. Meyer, former associate director of athletics at the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse, has been hired as the NCAA's director of education outreach.

Meyer will assume responsibilities for educating the membership, media and public on gender equity, Title IX and student-athlete development/welfare through na-
tional seminars and conferences. She also will be responsible for administering the CHAMPS/Life Skills Program. In addition, Meyer will be the Association's primary spokesperson on Title IX issues.

At Wisconsin-La Crosse, Meyer also served as the school's senior woman administrator and as an assistant professor in the health, physical education and recreation department in addition to her duties as associate athletics director.

She also served as a member of the school's alcohol task force and as a member of the NCAA's National Youth Sports Program Committee.

Meyer helped coordinate the university's efforts in hosting the Division III Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships in 1997 and the Division III Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships in 1995.

Before joining the Wisconsin-La Crosse staff, Meyer was an assistant to the director of athletics at the University of Iowa, where she earned both her master's and doctorate degrees. Meyer earned her undergraduate degree from Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1982.

Meyer replaces Janet Justus, who decided not to relocate when the NCAA national office moved to Indianapolis.

Justus, a 15-year member of the national office staff, has been hired as legal counsel at Verrill and Dana in Kansas City, Missouri, working with its sports law and higher education groups.
