Nontraditional-season survey to receive Council attention

At their summer meetings, the Division III Management Council and Presidents Council are expected to focus on numerous Division III issues, including nontraditional seasons and championships among other issues.

The Division III Management Council meets July 26-27 in Hilton Head, South Carolina, and the Division III Presidents Council meets August 5 in Indianapolis.

Both are expected to discuss the issue of nontraditional seasons and possible changes to NCAA legislation regarding nontraditional seasons.

The Councils will review the report of the Management Council's Subcommittee to Review Nontraditional Seasons, including the results of a survey that was sent to the Division III membership.

The Councils also will review member input gathered recently, including comments coming out of a Division III discussion session at the annual National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics convention.

The Councils also are expected to review the Division III Championships Committee's final recommendations regarding the implementation of the Division III selection principles, including the team-sport selection criteria for all eight team sports.

The Councils also will review the committee's recommendations regarding regional alignment and specific allocation of berths for Pool A along with criteria for Pools B and C.

The Councils also will review plans for the first video conference in Division III. The Division III Membership Committee -- assisted by the Financial Aid and Awards and the Interpretations and Legislation committees -- has planned a video conference for November 1999.

This video conference is a membership-education initiative that is designed to provide a variety of information regarding NCAA legislation, financial aid issues and other matters.
