Inflationary adjustment for financial aid approved

The Division I Management Council has approved a recommended inflationary adjustment to one of the alternatives for satisfying the Division I financial aid minimums (NCAA Bylaw 20.9.1.2)

The Division I Committee on Financial Aid had recommended the change, which is a 4.5 percent inflationary adjustment (based on an unweighted average change in tuition and fees from 1997-98 to 1998-99), effective August 1, 2000.

The following new minimums result from this inflationary adjustment: Financial aid representing a minimum aggregate expenditure of $700,000 (with at least $350,000 in women's sports) in 1999-00.

If the institution does not sponsor either men's or women's basketball, the minimum aggregate expenditure must be $462,400 in 1999-00 for the gender without the basketball program.

This fall, the NCAA will send a mailing to Division I chief executive officers further notifying them of the change.
