Revised compliance assistant software to be released soon

The NCAA Compliance Assistant Windows Version 4.0 is near completion and is soon to be released.

The exact date of distribution is not known at this time, but it is anticipated that it will not be released before the last week of July. To determine when the version will be available, those interested should go to the NCAA's Web site for the Compliance Assistant to see if the version is there to be downloaded. The address for that site is http://www.ncaa.org/databases/compliance assistant.

The Compliance Assistant site currently has information regarding the release of the Windows version (including minimum system requirements), how to convert data from the DOS Version 3.5 into the Windows version, and how to subscribe to the Compliance Assistant list server to communicate with other users. When the version is ready to be released, the site also will have the Windows version to be downloaded (including instructions for registering and downloading), the user's guide and a "Frequently Asked Questions" document. All users are asked to review the frequently asked questions before calling the national office with questions.

Individuals who received Compliance Assistant versions in past years will not automatically receive the Windows version. It is hoped that all users of the program will be able to obtain the new version by downloading it from the Web site. [The NCAA's Web site (and phone and e-mail services) will be unavailable during the time of the national office's move to Indianapolis (5 p.m. July 21 to 8:30 a.m. July 27).]

For persons who do not have Internet access, the program may be ordered on compact disk or 31Ž2-inch diskettes. However, due to the timing of the release and the national office move to Indianapolis, it will be more efficient for such persons to download the program from the Internet rather than having to receive a CD or disk order during this transition time for the national office staff.

The Compliance Assistant project team would like to thank the following individuals who assisted in testing this version: Jennifer Condaras, West Virginia University; Melissa Freigang, Gonzaga University; Penni Key, University of Miami (Florida); Dave Ridpath, Marshall University; Kelly Rodrigue, Nicholls State University; Bill Shults, University of Connecticut; Charlette Stuart, University of Oklahoma; and Lisa Watson, University of Arizona.

The NCAA Compliance Assistant software program is a student-athlete database that, among other things, applies NCAA rules and prints NCAA-required reports. It is free to individuals at member institutions and is year 2000 compliant. Individuals with questions about the program may contact the NCAA software support help desk.
