Sports sponsorship: Washington and Jefferson College will add men's and women's water polo to its varsity sports during the 1999-00 academic year. The program will be established using a $60,000 grant from the United States Olympic Committee, and it will be administered by the United States Water Polo Association. Washington and Jefferson's head swim coach, Mike Orstein, will add the two teams' coaching duties to his current responsibilities ... Muhlenberg College is adding a varsity women's golf team. The team will begin competition in spring 2000, with Tammy Smith as its head coach. Smith also is the school's head women's basketball coach, having led the team to Centennial Conference East Division titles in four of her five years and winning the overall conference championship twice. Muhlenberg is the first Centennial Conference institution to offer women's golf as a varsity sport ... Rosemont College is adding women's lacrosse as a varsity sport beginning with the 1999-00 academic year. The team will be coached by Lynn Rothenhoefer, who also is the college's field hockey coach.
