Florida Southern wins 10th men's golf crown in runaway

Florida Southern set a Division II Men's Golf Championships scoring record, scorching the field to win the school's 10th title by 32 shots.

The Moccasins led each round of the tournament and finished with a total of 1,125, 27 strokes under par.

The mark shattered a record that had stood for 32 years, held by Lamar, which shot a team total of 1,141 in 1967.

South Carolina-Aiken took second place, posting a score of 1,157. West Florida was third at 1,159, Valdosta State carded a 1,164 for fourth place and Columbus State rounded out the top five at 1,170.

Matt Saglio, a Florida Southern senior, birdied his final two holes to take the individual title by two shots over three golfers. Jeff Klauk of Florida Southern, Jon Drewery of Columbus State, and Matt Avinger of South Carolina-Aiken tied for second place with scores of 280. Adam Short of Clayton State shot a final-round 65 -- one shot shy of the tournament record -- to place fifth at 282.
