National Collegiate Women's Rowing

Field: The championship is composed of 311 competitors and includes three events (I Eights; II Eights and Fours), each covering a 2,000-meter course. Ten teams will be selected, and each team is required to field two boats of eight rowers and one boat of four rowers. In addition, nine eight-woman boats from institutions not represented in the team competition will be selected. Individual rowers are not permitted to double at the championship. A minimum of 36 of the 311 berths will be allocated to participants from Divisions II and III.

Dates and sites: The championship will be May 28-30 at Lake Natoma in Sacramento, California.

Championship notes: Only three schools qualified all three boats for the championship in 1998: Washington, Brown and Virginia. The three squads were deadlocked at 43 heading into the finals of the I Eights, which Washington won ... Defending champion Washington placed in the top four in each team event to win the 1998 championship.
