Division III Men's Basketball

Field: Forty-eight teams, six from each of eight regions. Automatic qualification has been granted to 25 con-ferences.

Dates and sites: First-round games will be on the campus of the higher-seeded team, depending on geographical proximity, March 4. Second-round games are March 6. Quarterfinal games are March 12-13. Both the second-round games and the quarterfinals will be held on the campus of one of the competing schools. Semifinals will be March 19 at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Virginia. The third-place and championship games will be held March 20 at the same site.

The request numbers are 5059 for semifinal results, 5060 for third-place-game results and 5061 for championship-game results. These are the only games for which results will be posted. The championship-game results will be published in the March 29 issue of The NCAA News.

Championship notes: Last year, Wisconsin-Platteville became the first undefeated champion since the Pioneers' 1995 squad pulled the same trick, which was the second of the team's three championships ... The only other undefeated champion was Potsdam State in 1986 ... Since the tournament started in 1975, only North Park, which won three straight, 1978-80, has repeated ... North Park has won two other times for a tournament-record five championships.
