Championships notes: Abilene Christian captured its third consecutive title, and fifth in the last six years, with a 26-point victory in 1998 over runner-up St. Augustine's. The championship was Abilene Christian's sixth overall, and pulled the Wildcats to within one of St. Augustine's division-leading total. The two schools, which tied for first place in 1988, have claimed all but one of the titles in the 13-year history of the championships. Southeast Missouri State was the champion in the inaugural meet in 1985. St. Augustine's has been second every time that it has not won ... Abilene Christian student-athletes won five individual titles in 1998 to St. Augustine's two, narrowing the Falcons' overall lead in that category to 36-31. Another sign of the two schools' dominance is the 67 combined individual championships. The other Division II institutions have amassed 93 individual first places as a group.
