Sports sponsorship: Men's lacrosse will become the 22nd varsity sport at Susquehanna University in the spring of 2000. Scott Rynne, former Williams College player and head coach of the lacrosse club team at Claremont McKenna-Harvey Mudd-Scripps Colleges, will be the head coach. Rynne also will serve as an assistant coach with the Crusaders football team ... Marietta College will add women's golf in spring 2000, giving the college 15 varsity sports. Marietta volleyball coach Cathy Monteroso has been named the women's golf coordinator.

Milestones: Penny Dean, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, 100 conference victories in women's swimming. Dean is 100-3 in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and 182-77 overall.

Miscellaneous: Bill Fitch was among the inductees into the Coe College Athletic Hall of Fame recently. A 1954 graduate of the college, Fitch won the 1981 NBA championship as coach of the Boston Celtics, and in 1985, he took the Houston Rockets to the finals. Fitch was a standout talent at Coe, where he played basketball and baseball. Fitch holds the record for coaching the most games in the NBA, and he is second in all-time coaching victories.
