Four new members selected to fill Management Council positions

Four new members joined the Division II Management Council upon adjournment of the 1999 Convention.

They are Dave Coffey, director of athletics at Northwood University; Lisa Colvin, senior woman administrator at Southern Arkansas University; Ed Harris, director of athletics at West Texas A&M University; and Mike Marcil, commissioner of the North Central Conference.

They will replace Robert T. Becker of Saginaw Valley State University; Milton L. Bradley of Delta State University; Margaret Harbison of Texas A&M University, Commerce; and Lynn L. Dorn of North Dakota State University.

Dave Coffey

Coffey, who has served as director of athletics at Northwood since 1989, currently is second vice-president for Division II of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. He also has served on the regional committees for the Division II men's and women's basketball championships and as president of the Midwest Intercollegiate Football Conference.

Before assuming his duties at Northwood, Coffey was president of DWC Communications, Inc.

Previous to that, he was athletics director at Portland State University from 1986-89 and athletics director at Tennessee Tech University from 1980-86. Before that, he was an assistant athletics director at Central Michigan University, athletics ticket manager at Ohio University and director of ticket services for the Cincinnati Reds.

He is a graduate of Ohio University. He also has a master's degree from Ohio.

Lisa Colvin

Colvin came to Southern Arkansas after serving for three years at Valdosta State University as director of the applied physiology laboratory. Before that, she was at the University of Southern Mississippi.

At Southern Arkansas, she serves as senior woman administrator and as an associate professor in health, kinesiology and recreation. She directs the university's wellness center, the kinesiology laboratory and the Center for Physical Medicine.

She serves as a volunteer coach on the women's cross country team Colvin also serves on the Division II Track and Field Committee and is on the regional board for the Division II Women's Basketball Championship.


Del Harris

Harris has 31 years of experience in higher education administration, the last 18 as an athletics director.

He has been director of athletics at West Texas A&M since 1995. From 1985-95, he was athletics director at Missouri Western State College and was athletics director at the University of North Carolina, Asheville, from 1981-85.

Harris currently is a member of the NCAA Committee on Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct and has served three years on the regional committee of the Division II Men's Basketball Championship.

He is a graduate of Asheville Biltmore College (now North Carolina-Asheville) and also has a master's degree from Western Carolina University.


Mike Marcil

Marcil was named commissioner of the North Central Conference in 1997 after having served as an NCAA membership services representative for six years.

Before that, Marcil was associate commissioner of the Northeast Conference from 1990-91, assistant athletics director at Miami-Dade Community College from 1988-90, athletics business manager at Creighton University from 1986-88, and assistant athletics director at Saint Thomas University (Florida) from 1985-86.

While at the NCAA, Marcil was responsible for conducting compliance reviews and was involved in the Division I athletics certification process.

Marcil earned his bachelor's degree from Creighton and a law degree from Marquette University. He also has a master's degree in sports administration from Saint Thomas.
