Division III notes

Sports sponsorship: Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology will add women's soccer to its varsity athletics program, effective fall 1999. Greg Ruark, who has coached the men's soccer team at Rose-Hulman for the past 10 seasons, will also coach the new team. Matches will be played at Jim Rendel Field, which also hosts the men's soccer team. Jim Rendel Field has recently undergone several renovations, including the addition of a new scoreboard, bleachers and a new press box ... St. Lawrence University recently announced the addition of seven new intercollegiate sports: men's and women's rowing, men's and women's golf, men's and women's squash, and women's softball. Coaches for the new sports will be hired during the summer and fall, with recruiting taking place during the 1998-99 academic year and competition beginning in the fall of 1999. These additions bring the number of sports offered at St. Lawrence up to 32.
