Division III -- III tennis committee discusses championships expansionThe Division III Men's and Women's Tennis Committee discussed recently proposed bracket expansion and reviewed site locations for future championships during its annual meeting July 6-9 in Indianapolis.

The committee had recommended to the Division III Championships Committee that the tournament bracket be increased from the current 16 teams with 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams competing in the men's championships and the current 14 teams with 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams competing in the women's championships.

The Championships Committee has remanded the proposal back to the tennis committee for consideration of specific parameters, including a request that the new bracket reflect the 1:16 ratio between championships participants and sponsoring institutions. The tennis committee will discuss this issue further at a future meeting.

In other action, the committee recommended that the 1999 Division III Men's Tennis Championships be conducted at Claremont McKenna-Harvey Mudd-Scripps Colleges and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges. The site of the 1999 Division III Women's Tennis Championships has yet to be determined. The committee expects to finalize a recommendation to the Division III Championships Committee for review in October.
