Committee notices

Nominations are being accepted for the following interim (immediate) committee vacancies and vacancies with terms beginning September 1, 1998.

Division I

Division I candidates must be nominated by their institution's multisport conference. The Division I Nomination Form and Division I Nominee Information Form must be completed for each nominee. Nomination materials are to be sent to Julie Quickel, committee coordinator, at the national office (fax 913/339-0035).

Newly announced vacancies

The deadline for submission of completed nomination forms for the following vacancies is June 12, 1998.

Women's Gymnastics Committee: One vacancy. The appointee will replace Chris Voelz, University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, not eligible for reappointment. Due to recent regional realignment, additional nominations are being accepted. The appointee must be an athletics administrator from gymnastics region 2 or 4. Eligible subdivisions: I-A, I-AA, I-AAA. Division I Infractions Appeals Committee: One interim vacancy. The appointee will replace John W. Stoepler, University of Toledo, deceased. The appointee may be from Divisions I-A, I-AA or I-AAA. Eligible subdivisions: I-A, I-AA, I-AAA.

Division I Women's Soccer Committee: One interim vacancy. The appointee will replace Kathy E. Lindahl, Michigan State University, who resigned from the committee. The appointee preferably will be from the Great Lakes region. Eligible subdivisions: I-A, I-AA, I-AAA.

Men's and Women's Fencing Committee: One Division I vacancy. The appointee will replace Merry L. Ormsby, Columbia University-Barnard College, not eligible for reappointment. The appointee must represent women's fencing and must be from the Northeast region. Eligible subdivisions: I-A, I-AA, I-AAA.

Division I

Division II individuals may be nominated by peers. Self nominations also are accepted in Division II. A Division II Nomination Form and Division II Nominee Information Form must be completed for each nominee. Nomination materials are to be sent to Julie Quickel, committee coordinator, at the national office (fax 913/339-0035).

The deadline for submission of completed nomination forms for the following vacancy is June 19, 1998.

Division II Academic Requirements Committee: One vacancy, which was created by virtue of Pam Gill-Fisher serving as the Management Council representative to the committee on behalf of the Northern California Collegiate Conference. The conference will disband effective July 1, 1998; therefore, Ms. Gill-Fisher will no longer be eligible to serve as the Management Council representative. Carol Dunn, a current member of the committee, will represent the Management Council, creating a membership vacancy.

Division II Women's Soccer Committee: Four vacancies. Four new positions on the committee have been created so that the committee composition will match the geographical sports regions. The four new appointees must include one representative from each of the following regions: New England, Great Lakes, Southeast, and Great Plains. Of the four new appointees, two must be athletics administrators.

Men's Ice Hockey Rules Committee: One interim Division II vacancy. The appointee will replace Robert A. DeFelice, Bentley College, who resigned from the committee. The appointee must be on staff at a Division II institution that sponsors Division II men's ice hockey.

Division II Women's Soccer Committee: Four immediate vacancies. Noncontroversial legislation will be adopted to expand the committee from four to eight members, creating four new positions. The appointees must be from the following regions: Great Lakes, Southeast, New England and Great Plains. Two of the new appointees must be athletics administrators.

Division II Women's Softball Committee: One vacancy. The appointee will replace Linda J. Wooster, Quinnipiac College, not eligible for reappointment. The appointee must be from the Northeast region.

Division II Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Committee: One vacancy. The appointee will replace Frances Nee, Indiana University (Pennsylvania), not eligible for reappointment. The appointee must represent men's swimming and must be an athletics administrator.

The deadline for submission of completed nomination forms for the following vacancy is May 29, 1998.

Division II Committee on Infractions: One interim vacancy. The appointee will replace William Weidner, director of athletics, Ashland University, who will resign from the committee due to his selection as athletics director at the University of Texas-Pan American, a Division I institution.

Division II Women's Basketball Committee: Two vacancies. The appointees will replace Pam Gill-Fisher, University of California, Davis, and Peggy Green, Fayetteville State University, not eligible for reappointment. One appointee must be from the West region and one must be from the South Atlantic region.

Division II Men's Soccer Committee: One vacancy. The appointee will replace James DiNobile, Eckerd College, not eligible for reappointment. The appointee must be from the South region.

Divisions II/III Women's Golf Committee: One Division II interim (immediate) vacancy. The appointee will replace Julie Garner, formerly of Rollins College, who resigned from the committee. The appointee must be an athletics administrator, preferably from the West golf district.

Division II Men's and Women's Tennis Committee: Two vacancies. The appointees will replace Burton Reece, Bloomsburg University, and Donna Arnold, Presbyterian College, not eligible for reappointment. Both appointees must be from the East region and one appointee must represent men's tennis and one appointee must represent women's tennis. One of the appointees must be female and both appointees must be athletics administrators.

Division III

Division III Nominating Committee: One interim vacancy. The appointee will replace Marjorie Giles, faculty athletics representative, Central College (Iowa), who will retire effective June 30, 1998. The appointee must be female and must be a former NCAA officer or former member of the NCAA Council and must be from geographic Region 4 (Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming). The appointee may not be from the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Division III Baseball Committee: Two vacancies. The appointees will replace Thomas Fay, St. Lawrence University, and Bruce Wheeler, University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, not eligible for reappointment. One appointee must be from the New York region and one must be from the New England region. Both appointees must be athletics administrators who do not coach baseball. Neither appointee may be from the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Conference or the Little East Conference.

Division III Men's Golf Committee: Two vacancies. The appointees will replace P. Timothy Brown, Skidmore College, and Judith M. Sweet, University of California, San Diego, not eligible for reappointment. One appointee must be from golf District 1 and one appointee must be from golf District 6. Neither appointee may be from the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Division III Men's Ice Hockey Committee: One vacancy. The appointee will replace Francis T. O'Brien, University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, not eligible for reappointment. The appointee must be from the West region (Districts 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8) and must be an athletics administrator who does not coach men's ice hockey. The appointee may not be from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Division III Men's Lacrosse Committee: One vacancy. The appointee will replace Tom Cafaro, Nichols College, not eligible for reappointment. The appointee must be from the North men's lacrosse region and must be an athletics administrator who does not coach men's lacrosse.

Division III Women's Lacrosse Committee: Two vacancies (one interim). The interim appointee will replace Donna M. Ledwin, College of Notre Dame, who will resign from the committee effective May 1998. The interim appointee must be from the Central region and must be an athletics administrator who does not coach women's lacrosse. The September 1998 appointee will replace Suzanne R. Coffey, Bates College, not eligible for reappointment. The appointee must be from the New England region and may not be from the New England Small College Athletic Conference. An additional new position on the committee will be created. The new appointee must be from the Metro region. Either the New England representative or the Metro representative must be an athletics administrator who does not coach women's lacrosse.

Division III Women's Softball Committee: One vacancy. The appointee will replace Sharon M. Panske, University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, not eligible for reappointment. The appointee must be from the Great Lakes region and may not be from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Division III Men's and Women's Tennis Committee: One vacancy. The appointee will replace Christine J. Davis, Smith College, not eligible for reappointment. The appointee must represent women's tennis and be from the East region. The appointee may not be from the New England Women's Eight Conference.

Men's and Women's Rifle Committee: One vacancy. The appointee will replace George T. Brenzovich, King's College (Pennsylvania), not eligible for reappointment. The appointee may not be from the Middle Atlantic States Athletic Conference.
