GTE Academic All-America fall/winter teams named

The GTE Academic All-America fall/winter men's and women's at-large teams feature student-athletes from rifle and swimming and diving as team members of the year.

Marcos Scrivner, a rifle champion at West Virginia, and Kathy Pesek, a diving champion at Tennessee, are GTE Academic All-America Team Members of the Year in the university division.

Three-time swimming champion Torsten Seifert of Kenyon and Case Western Reserve swimmer Sharon Sanborn are college division team members of the year.

Scrivner, who led this year's West Virginia rifle team to the National Collegiate championship and also was individual smallbore champion in 1997, is a senior accounting/finance major.

Pesek, who won the 10-meter diving title at the Division I Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, is a junior audiology/speech pathology major.

Seifert, a three-time individual champion and member of Division III national-championship men's swimming and diving teams at Kenyon, is a senior economics major.

Sanborn, a biomedical engineering major at Case Western Reserve, was selected for the Academic All-America first team for the second straight year.

The GTE Academic All-America Teams are selected by a vote of the 1,800-member College Sports Information Directors of America. Nominees must be a varsity starter or key reserve and must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.200 (4.000 scale).
