Several top teams, individuals lead I cross country academic list

Seven of the top 10 women's teams and six of the top 20 women's individual finishers at the 1997 Division I Women's Cross Country Championships lead the Division I women's all-academic cross country team announced by the Women's Intercollegiate Cross Country Coaches Association.

Brigham Young, which claimed the 1997 team title, Stanford, Dartmouth, Wisconsin, Providence, Oregon and Boston College highlight the 83-team all-academic team. Stanford, Dartmouth and Wisconsin placed second, fourth and fifth, respectively, at the 1997 championships, while Providence, Oregon and Boston College garnered the sixth, eighth and ninth positions, respectively.

Duquesne posted the highest grade-point average among the 83 teams at 3.750. Brigham Young was fifth at 3.590.

Angela Graham of Boston College, who placed third individually at the 1997 championships; Carmen Douma of Villanova (sixth); Oregon's Marie Davis (ninth); Northern Arizona's Amy Swier (10th); Kelly Smith of Colorado (18th) and Maggie Chan of Brigham Young (19th) were among the 42 individuals garnering honors.
