Courtice elected to III Presidents Council

Thomas B. Courtice, president of Ohio Wesleyan University, was elected to the Division III Presidents Council at the NCAA Convention. He began his term as a Region 3 representative immediately after the election.

Courtice, who has been the president of Ohio Wesleyan University since 1994, previously served eight years as president of West Virginia Wesleyan College. His 27-year career in higher education also includes nine years as president of Westbrook College and 10 years in a variety of faculty and administrative positions at Hamline University.

Courtice has served as president of the North Coast Athletic Conference, vice-chair of the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges and president of both the National Association of Schools and Colleges of the United Methodist Church and the Appalachian College Association.

He also has served on the board of directors of both the National Association of Independent Colleges and the Foundation for Independent Higher Education.

Courtice earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh, where he majored in mathematics, and earned a master's degree in business administration from Indiana University, Bloomington. His doctorate, from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, is in education and American studies.
