Division II Presidents Council nominations sought

Nominations are being sought for a vacancy on the Division II Presidents Council resulting from the recent resignation of Adam W. Herbert as a Region 2 representative.

Herbert, who also served as Presidents Council chair, resigned following his selection as chancellor of the State University System of Florida. He was president of the University of North Florida.

The vacancy must be filled by a chief executive officer of a Division II institution in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia or West Virginia.

A nomination form was mailed January 27 to chief executive officers at Division II institutions and commissioners of Division II conferences in Region 2.

Nominations should be submitted to Nancy L. Mitchell, NCAA chief of staff for Division II, at the national office (fax 913/339-0032). The deadline for nominations is February 27.

The Division II Presidents Council anticipates reviewing nominations and filling the vacancy either before or during its April 21 meeting. Persons who nominate a CEO for the position will be assumed to have determined that the nominee is willing to serve. The Presidents Council also has indicated its commitment to ensuring ethnic and gender diversity in filling vacancies.

As a result of Herbert's resignation, Vice-Chair Anthony F. Ceddia of Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania is serving as interim chair of the Presidents Council.

Herbert became the Division II Presidents Council's first chair last year after serving since 1993 as a member and then as Division II chair of the NCAA Presidents Commission.
