Division II resolicits nominees for committee vacancies

Due to a low number of nominations submitted by the December 5 deadline, the Division II Nominating Committee has approved another call for nominations for committees that will have vacancies in September 1998, as well as for committees with current interim vacancies.

The deadline for submission of additional nominations is January 20, 1998.

In an effort to increase the pool of eligible nominees, a memorandum from the Nominating Committee was mailed to all Division II conference commissioners during the week of December 29. Commissioners were urged to place the topic of conference vacancies on the meeting agendas of conference meetings during the NCAA Convention.

Doug Echols, commissioner of the South Atlantic Conference and chair of the Division II Nominating Committee, also will make a presentation to the Division II membership during the Division II athletics administrators' forum at the Convention. The forum will be at 2:15 p.m. January 11.

Nominations will be accepted from any source on a Division II Nomination Form. Once a written nomination is received, a Nominee Information Form will be faxed to the nominee. All completed forms must be submitted by the end of business January 20.

The Division II Nominating Committee will meet January 29-30 to review the nominations and forward its recommendations for appointments to the appropriate appointing body.

Recommendations for appointments to sports committees will be forwarded to the Division II Championships Committee for selection and then to the Division II Management Council for ratification. Recommendations for appointments to Division II general committees will be forwarded to the Management Council for selection and then to the Division II Presidents Council for ratification.

It is anticipated that vacancies with terms that begin September 1998 will be filled by the end of April 1998.

Nominees who have submitted materials since January 1, 1997, will remain active in the pool of candidates; therefore, there is no need to resubmit forms.

The September 1998 vacancies originally were published in the October 20, 1997, issue of The NCAA News.
