Replacement sought for Weston as secretary-rules editor

Nominations are being accepted for the position of secretary-rules editor for the NCAA Women's Basketball Rules Committee.

The vacancy is due to the resignation from the position of Marcy Weston, senior associate athletics director at Central Michigan University. Weston is the only individual who has held the position since the committee's creation in 1985. She will continue to fulfill the duties of national coordinator of women's basketball officiating.

The position of secretary-rules editor is not limited to a specific membership division. Qualified candidates will have an extensive knowledge of NCAA women's basketball playing rules and their history and intent, as well as a knowledge of basketball officiating.

The individual will provide both written and oral interpretations of the rules and will work closely with the national coordinator of women's basketball officials to assist with officiating clinics, and will work with conference supervisors of officials throughout the season.

Nominations for the vacancy will be accepted until February 2, 1998. Candidates at Division I institutions must be nominated by the institution's multisport conference. The conference must submit the Division I Nomination Form and the Division I Nominee Information Form.

Divisions II and III candidates can be nominated by peers. Self-nominations also will be accepted in those divisions. Nominations must be in writing and sent to Julie Quickel, NCAA committee coordinator (fax 913/339-0035). A nominee information form will be faxed to the candidate and must be completed and returned by February 2.
